    3. First, I want to apologize to the mailing list. I was trying to send a personal message to Sloan. I was as surprised as any of you when I got it right back. That is my fault, whether caused by carelessness, old age -- whatever. I am sorry I sent it. For the record: (1) I check the answering machine at the library everyday, usually at least twice. No one has left a message in the past week except for a recording giving the library one last chance to extend the warranty on it's automobile! No one has hung up on anyone because no one has been in the library in the past week. Last Tuesday morning was the last time it was unlocked. For the record: (2) I just alphabetized the addresses of incoming mail and found a message from you dated yesterday. I did not see it in the flood of messages I was getting. If I had, I would have responded. Again I apologize to you for that, also. I agree with the writer who just wrote in to say that enough has been said about this matter. I am sorry that things got to this point. Please destroy the files. One last time, I sincerely apologize for sending the message for Sloan to the wrong place. Now I am out of this. I have however been hung up on, on a couple of occasions now when I called. Here is an email I sent yesterday to which no reply has come. > > -------Original Message------- > > From: Mike & Diane > Date: 3/3/2008 11:28:27 AM > To: fussellh@earthlink.net > Subject: Card Collection > > Horace, > > I wish you would have contacted me before sending these messages through the mailing lists. I have repeatedly requested that Fred send me a list of board names and contact information so that I could contact the board in reference to these cards and I never received a reply. I did not know you were a member of the board or of anyone else with the exception of Fred. > > We could have tried to work this out without getting the boards all in an uproar. > > Would you please explain to me why the cards cannot be posted on the site? We were not gong to post all 36,000 of the cards as you say. We were going to post the ones that people were interested in. This in turn would lead more people to the library and would have made people a lot more interested in its holdings. > > I do send messages through the list about the library, about it needing volunteers, holdings, etc. I also advise anyone looking for information to go to the library including sending the phone number of the library to many people as well as the lists so people can make appointments to go there to get information. I have had people for months tell me they get no return phone calls and I tell them to keep trying, and yes this was before we ever became interested in the card collection. > > I have never tried to get a volunteer inside the library to gain access to the materials there. I am not one to stoop as low as you have portrayed me to be. I would never put anything on the site that has a copyright without the original authors permission, or permission from one of their decedents. Compilations of facts are not subject to copyright, hence they can be posted without the original authors permission. I have however posted where the cards came from as well as information on Leslie Brown. > > I truly believe we could have worked something out to benefit everyone with this. > > Diane > > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/duplin.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgreene/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjones/jones.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclenoir/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncnewhan/nh.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpasqu2/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpender/pender.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncperqu2/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmil/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocivwar/mocwindex.html > ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NCDUPLIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
