Hello List! The information I had asked Dee to look up for me was not contained in any of the books she has. I would not be willing to purchase a book for $30.00, sight unseen, with the hopes that it MIGHT have one person I am researching. So the statement that the Societies and authors are loosing money in sales because of Dee's look ups, is without merit. Quite the contrary, in my opinion. If the results had been opposite, it would be a book that I would gladly purchase, knowing it held so much information for me. If I'm not mistaken, the books Dee is getting info from are books that are available at libraries and genealogy societies. The information from these books is AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE to anyone who can GET TO a library that carries the books. I am one of many subscribers who live more than 1200 miles away one of those libraries and therefore do not have access to the information that is provided for free to residents who can walk to the library for it. Nor can I stop at the court house on my way home from work to look up FREE information. The service that Dee is providing is in no way plagiarism. She has repeated again and again the source of the information and where she got these books. She has never once, laid claim to any information she is passing along to other folks. Yes, the authors of the books DID spend countless hours compiling the information that THEY recieved for FREE with the exception of their time. Not to mention the information THEY included in their published books that was DONATED by researchers like ourselves. Is it noted in these books, which information was donated and by whom? Maybe J. J. Franks needs to look up the word plagiarize and see if the authors of these books are not guilty of such. Let's see now..what was that definition of plagiarize again: Plagiarize - to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source That, by the way was quoted from the online Merriam-Webster Dictionairy. Am I now a plagiarist? Keep up the good work Dee! Judy
