ELISHA SPENCE (and Isaac Spence): 4A 316 Isaac (l) ( Note: appears to be a roman numeral one with a horizontal line crossing through the center) Spence to John Screws, both of Duplin Co., 6 Apr 1807, for $40, 20A on the Ns of Goshen Swamp, joining the lines of sd. Spence, William Underhill & lands belonging to the estate of John Shuffield dec'd, beg. at a stake in the center of 3 pines in the edge of Pompy's Pocosin. Wit: Bryan Bourden, Elisha (X) Spence, William ( Y) (Note: the mark is more of a u shape than a v on top of a vertical line) Underhill. Apr. Ct. 1811. ISAAC SPENCE: 3A 349 (and Timothy Spence) Jephtha (X) Daniel to Isaac Spence, both planters of Duplin Co., 26 Nov 1795, for 100 pds. current money 100A on the NS of Goshen Swamp & incl. part of the place called the Lake Land, beg. at a white oak, the beg. of John Sheffield's land near Pompey's Pocosin & running a direct line to the center of 3 pines, marked formerly Weston Prairses (sic) corner, to Hart's line, to a pine the beg. of the land John Hart sold to Jesse Cook & which the sd. Spence now lives on, being half of a patent granted to Jesse Barfield 1 Apr 1780 & conveyed through several hands unto sd. Daniel. Wit: Stephen Jones, Timothy Spence. July Ct. 1796. 3A 397 Thomas Bradley, planter, to Edward Winders, bachelor, both of Duplin Co., 1 Sept 1796, for 175 pds. current money 200A on the NS of Goshen Swamp & on Bear Marsh Branch in 2 tracts to wit: (Note: (1) is missing here)100A beg. at a black gum at Hennet's old corner in Bear Marsh, to a pine Isaac Spence's corner, to a white oak in Bear Marsh Branch, being part of a large tract granted to Christopher Burch & conveyed by deeds though several hands unto sd. Bradley; (2) 100A beg. at a pine at the head of Bear Marsh Branch, to a white oak Jesse Swinson's corner, to a pine sd. Swinson's other corner on the great path leading from sd. John Jones. Wit: Henry Kornegay, Isaac (X) Spence. Oct. Ct. 1809. 4A 193 Isaac (l)(see note under Elisha Spence), planter of Duplin Co., to Giles Thomas Loftin of Lenoir Co., 9 Oct 1810, for $574.50 good & lawful money of N. C. 193A on BS of the road between Goshen & the Northeast, incl. a place called the Lake Savannah & the planta. whereon the sd. Isaac Spence now lives, it being land formerly patented by Jesse Barfield & part of a small survey patented by sd. Spence, beg. at a pine by his fence a corner of the _______ he sold to John Screws & runs with sd. Spence's old line along his fence, along Barfield's old line to a pine stump of his corner, then along Barfield's other line, to a white oak in the Northeast Pocosin his corner, joining Oliver, to a stake in the Lake Meadow, John Screw's corner. Ct. 1810. 4A 288 John Kornegay, planter, to Basil Kornegay, both of Duplin Co., 8 June 1810, for $2000, 700A in 2 tracts to wit: (1) 550A on the SS of the Northeast Swamp, beg. at a white oak in the sd. Northeast Swamp Edmond Duncan's old corner, adj. Henry Kornegay, Jacob Duncan; (2) 150A on the head of the Northeast Swamp & Deep Gully Branch, beg. at a pine the corner of Elijah Jones, to a white oak in Little Pocosin, being the contents of a deed from sd. Jones & Benjamin Weston to Jacob Kornegay Senr. & by sd. Kornegay's estate laid off to George Kornegay who conveyed to sd. John Kornegay. Wit: John Oliver, Lewis Barfield. Apr. Loften, both of Duplin Co., 10 Oct 1811, for $71, 20A on the Ns of Goshen Swamp, being part of a tract formerly Isaac Spence's, adj. the land of William Underhill & lands belonging to the estate of John Shuffield dec'd, beg. at a stake in the center of 3 pines in the edge of Pompy's Pocosin, joining Spence near the old path & along Shuffield's line to the beg. Wit: Joseph Osburne. Jan. Ct. 1812. TIMOTHY SPENCE: 3A 61 Michael (X) Menon (Minon) to Mary Kornegay (co. not given), 12 Sep 1796, for 40 pds. one black horse about 10 yrs. old, saddle, one filly about 1 yr. old, & 1 filly about 2 yrs. old. Wit: James Watkins, Timothy Spence. Oct. Ct. 1796. 3A 156 George Jernigan Hodom, planter, to Bartholomew Burns, both of Duplin Co., 15 Oct 1794, for 60 pds. good & lawful money of N. C. 85A on the SS of Hooks Marsh, beg. at a pine James Grimes corner, adj. John Winders & sd. Grimes. Wit: Timothy Spence, John Gibbs. July Ct. 1795. 3A 346 See Isaac Spence 4A 379 William (X) Munds & Sarah (Sally) Munds his wife of Duplin Co., to Sampson Grimes (co., not given), 27 July 1811, for $86, 93A on the NS of Goshen Swamp, patented by John Sulivent (little) & conveyed by him to John Sulivan Senr. who conveyed to Michael Sulivan, then fell by lott the 5th to Sally Munds, wife of William Munds, at the division of the sd. Michael Sulivan's lands. The 93A beg. at a laarge pine on sd. Grimes' line. Wit: Lewis Barfield, Timothy Spence. Sarah Mund acknowledged that she signed the above deed of her own free will & accord 21 Jan 1812 before David Wright & John Beck, Justices of the Peae. Jan. Ct. 1812. 4A 465 Sampson Grimes to his son Jesse Grimes, both of Duplin Co., 14 Jan 1813, "for natural love & affection" a deed of gift for 300A on the NS of Goshen Swamp & on the Ws of Absolam's Branch in 4 tracts to wit: (1) 60A beg. at a hickory William Herring's corner, joining Stephen Herring's old line & John Housman's old line; (2) (acreage not given) on Absolam's Branch & Goshen Swamp, beg. at a hickory on Goshen; (3) (acreage not given) beg. at William Herring's corner & beg. of a tract patented by William Bullard & also the beg. of the first tract mentioned in the deed, to a pine Absolam Weston's old line, being the contents of a deed of 2 sundry pieces of land conveyed by Reuben Weston to John Housman, patent dated 10 Dec 1788; (4) (acreage not given) between & joining the 2 other pieces afsd. mentioned, beg. at a pine stump in Absolam's Branch, Housman's old corner, William Bullard's old line, now William Herring's line, joining Sampson Grimes' old corner, to a maple in Big ! Meadow Branch, thence Outlaw's old line to the beg., being the contents of a patent granted to Reuben Weston 20 Dec 1791 & sold by execution as the prop. of sd. Weston by Thomas Wright, High Shff. of Duplin Co. to Daniel Glisson & conveyed by Glisson to Sampson Grimes. The last 3 tracts totaling 240A with the 1st tract of 60A, making a total of 300A, the 1st tract being patented 1 Apr 1780. Wit: Lofton Quinn, Nathan Waller, Timothy Spence. July Ct. 1813.
