Need help in sorting through the SHEFFIELD'S of Duplin.> > There are two Ishams born about the same time, one in Duplin and the other in Moore Co. There is some connection between these two Ishams as they name their children many of the same names. It appears that the two families are crossed. > One Isham Sheffield married Barbara Boney> One Isham Sheffield married Mary Lincoln> > It would appear that the Isham who married Mary Lincoln would be the Duplin Sheffields, especially since the daughter was mary and the son, Lincoln. > See below court records for Lincoln Sheffield.> > Is there another Lincoln Sheffield about this same time span, 1774? > Isham of Duplin, I can only find two children by proof that belong to him. Mary who married Edward Armstrong and Lincoln Sheffield who married Jennie Goff.> > Edward Armstrong was appointed guardian for Lincoln Sheffield. I can find no other mention in court records, etc. of any other children.> > After the death of Isham Sheffield, Barbara married Robert Dickson. In the April Term 1790 Court, Robert Dickson, list my step-children, Mary and Lincoln Sheffield. Barbara marries for the third time to a Mr. Wilkerson, as she is referred to as Barbara Wilkerson in April term of Court in 1827. > She willed her son Lincoln three slaves, and other items, son William Dickson, grandson Thomas Armstrong, and other items and money be divided between Lincoln Sheffield, Susan Hooks, William Dickson and the children of Edward Armstrong. These children were of Mary Sheffield. Only two Sheffield children mentioned in all of these legal documents. Now, can someone prove different? > Can anyone help to clear up this family? > Thanks, Melba Goff Allen Southern Families: http://members.tripod.com/~mallen4896/Index.html
