2. Hi Charlie! I'm happy to see someone else whose family lived in that area of Duplin... my Pearce's lived in Pin Hook... which is basically the same spot... on the deeds mentioned in the county and on Snodan Pearce's will... that particular road was always refered to as the Old or New Road depending on the date of the document.. I believe it was considered to be part of the old Fayetteville- Wilmington Road that went to the Maple Hill area then towards the west in (present day Pender Co.) just south of the Holly Shelter creek... the map shows a town called "Shakin" on that old road... I never found anything but an old tobacco barn and an old store that's been turned into a house! LOL But, the old road is still dirt on the south side... Hwy 53 was built on the north side of the creek as a substitute for the old road, so it fell into disuse except by locals... My webpage on the Pearce's shows the area in Duplin, though... most residents of that area refered to it as living in Sloan, NC... Pin Hook must have been a more recent nomenclature for the crossroads there on what's now Hwy 50... Here's a link to my webpage: Pearce/Pierce of Duplin Co, NC Let me know if this helps!! Baylus Brooks
