Hi, As MCCULLOH has been mentioned a lot lately, I thought I'd post my McCulloh info to see if anyone links to or has further info on the ones I'm researching. I have no idea if the Henry McCulloh mentioned in previous posts has any connection. This story was written in 1908 and is the remembrances of Pauline (Craig) Hughes (1826-1910). Pauline's mother was Mary BARFIELD, the daughter of Lewis Barfield (1767-1854) and Catherine McCulloh (1775-1854), James McCulloh's daughter. Would like to know the name of the second wife of James. I have further info to share on Barfield and Taylor, if interested. Thanks, Nancy Prouty, CA " James McCulloh was left an orphan in infancy, he was brought up by his paternal grandparents, who belonged to the nobility. He came to America and located in Duplin County, North Carolina. When leaving England his aunt, Amy McCulloh, told him that she would remit to him fifty pounds sterling each year. This she did until his death. His first wife Mary died when their children were quite young, they were raised by her mother, Catherine Taylor. James married again. There were four children from this second marriage, - Elizabeth, Amy, Alfred, and Penelope, so he had two daughters with the same name. The first Penelope (Catherine McCulloh Barfield's sister) had died long before the half-sister was born, however. After his second marriage James lived in Roan County, about 200 miles north of Duplin. He visited his daughter Catherine once every seven years until he became too feeble to travel, and then Catherine would visit him, making the entire trip on horseback." (Pauline Craig Hughes) 15 Sep 1778. Deed of Gift: James McCulloh to his children, Penelope, Catherine, and Henry McCulloh (the five [?] of my Beloved wife Mary McCulloh"). The children were given "Negro Slaves (?) to wit Dinah Hannah Peggy and Peter and all and Singular their issue and increase Now Begotten or hereafter to Be Begotten."
