An email I received from a family member: Friday Went for a ride to get a closer look at the storm damage. Some small towns are under water . Understand the only casualties were mostly traffic related, (due to stupidity.) But I can understand why people take chances. It will be some time before power can be restored. Beulaville is still cut off from the north , west and south. Don;t know about the east . But they have power . We are still using the generator. Thank god for generators!. Hallsville and Chinquapin are under water with homes and cars flooded I-40 washed out between Warsaw and Kenansville Magnolia exits Hwy 50 under water a few feet South of intersection of hwy 50 and Hallsville Rd. intersection. Hallsville road under water to within 3 miles of hwy 50 Pasture Branch Rd . North of hwy 50 under water. Chinquapin Completely under water on hwy 41 north of town water ends in front of the old school . Don't know about the other end. Can only guess that it is under water at least to the intersection of hwy 41 and hwy 50. Water has receded in some areas. Hwy 41 clear from Chinquapin to Beulaville. Old Chinquapin Rd. S end under water at intersection of hwy 41 Jackson Store under water between the dump and Lyman. Water has receded at least 5 feet here. Looks like the dump was under at least 3 feet of water. Hallsville Completely under water Past Blizzard Town Rd. Almost to Judy Mobley Lane east Blizzard Town Rd. under water to within 300 feet of Williams Rd. North of Hallsville. Hwy 111 north of Beulaville under water just west of Turkey Branch Rd. Homes and cars flooded. Hwy 41 from Beulaville and Pink Hill was flooded but now clear. Hwy 241 North of Beulaville under water. Have heard that Cedar Fork was flooded. Hwy 24 West of Beulaville. Between Sandlin Rd. and Miller Rd. Blocked under water. Update! - Saturday the 18th: Hallsville still under water but down about a foot. Hwy 24 is now open, probably all the way to Jacksonville. Hwy 111 also open. Lake Chinquapin still there but down about a foot or so. Hwy 41 and 50 still blocked by high water. Don't know about I-40 but suspect that it is now open. Water is going down pretty fast every place except Hallsville and Chinquapin. It looks like the worst is over. Even saw a couple of CP&L trucks heading in this general direction. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
