Here in Wilmington we thought we dodged a bullet. We were wrong. Our home is 1 block from the intracoastal waterway and water did NOT get into our home. Unfortunately, one of our rental homes is 2 blocks from Bradley Creek and had 4 feet of water inside the home. It is NOT located in a flood zone so we don't have flood insurance. Everything inside is ruined. Much of New Hanover County is impassable. My brother lives in Long Beach. He can't get back home to check because ALL roads to Long Beach are flooded - Hwy 17, Hwy 133, Hwy 87, etc. Some parts of Hwy 17 and I-40 have 3-4 feet of water across it. Can anyone tell me why if it has stopped raining the flood waters aren't expected to crest until at least a week? I don't understand how the water can keep rising if it isn't raining? Janice Cavenaugh
