Hello List: I know the lists are for genealogy related info, but there's been alot of traffic concerning Floyd, flooding, and road conditions lately, so I thought I'd pass on the following phone number and Info. (919) 549-5100, Ext 7623 connects to the Highway Patrol in Durham. They have a recording that describes current road conditions in Eastern NC. As of 8pm on 20 Sep, Hiway 17 is open from New Bern all the way into SC. I 95 is open, although there is still some flooding, in which case only one lane is open to allow access around. I 95 to Lumberton and US74 East from Lumberton to Wilmington is also open. Also, Tammy: I just spoke to my parents on the Ten Mile in Onslow Co. The Five Mile, Nine Mile, and Ten Mile areas of Onslow are all clear; however, about the only way in is from 258. I'm not sure about power, but my mom has electricity and phone. Any access from Chinquapin or Beulaville is almost impossible due to flooding on Hwy 50 at the Cape Fear River, and parts of the road around Lyman and Pin Hook are also under water. My mom said she'd seen reports of all kinds of livestock floating in the rivers, and even coffins in some areas, where low lying cemeteries were washed out. My grandmother lives near Hargett's Crossroads in Jones...they're boiling water. Everyone take care and be safe... Chris
