Whitaker who was son of Emma Elizabeth Elmore. She was the granddaughter of Elizabeth Hollingsworth who married James Dickson Wilson. In our family are also Carlton's and Parker's who are remembered as my Grandfather's cousins. Emma's sister, Adda Estelle Elmore married Matthew Carlton and her other sister Margaret "Pearl" Elmore married Emmulon Lanier Parker. My father and his sister played with a cousin Keith Carlton of NC in the 30's and I would love to get in touch with either of the Parker, Carlton or Wilson families. My Grandfather was born in 1907 and died close to 90 yrs of age - so he passed in the last decade and I've begun our family search as a result of trying to maintain our NC heritage. If you would be so kind to share my note I'd be most grateful! Best, Laura PS My father has a wonderful childhood memory of playing he believes at the Carlton home, my aunt believes it could have been the Parker home, in the woods of NC where remained in the corner of their family home a huge indent from a Civil War cannon ball! I wish I had more information...

As many of you know, Dr Herring's library is closed more than it is open due To a lack of volunteers to open it for fellow researchers. 3. Thanks, I appreciate your kind words Libby. : ) I have certainly tried to keep the site growing by finding new materials to post. Hopefully anyone that has any information from the cards or any other info will send it into the site to be added to our collection. Thanks to all the great researchers who have contributed their information to the site in the past and I hope others will continue to do so. We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of the transcribers that work steadily on transcribing all of the records that I have for the sites as well as the ones doing the cemeteries and deeds. Without them I would be completely lost and buried under all of the info I have and others have sent in to be added. So THANK YOU to all of the transcribers that help out on the Duplin site as well as all of the other sites that I maintain! : ) Also, I still have tons of info that needs to be transcribed so if anyone is interested please contact me off list. 3. As soon as I can I am going to make a trip to Duplin and go to the library and start copying family files so we can transcribe them for the site. If anyone else is making a trip there, if they would do the same I would greatly appreciate you getting copies and sending them to me so we can transcribe those as well. Hopefully if anyone that makes a trip to Duplin and goes to the library will make copies of various files we can get something for all of the families online. I would even be willing to pitch in on the cost of copies if someone else makes a trip there and makes copies Anyone interested? If so, contact me off-list and let me know what you have copies of and we can work something out. Also, if you already have copies of some of the files, please consider sending me a copy of them so we can put them online for everyone to utilize. The more you share, the more someone else will share! What a treasure that would be for all of us! Happy Hunting! Diane P.S. Roy & Libby- there are a lot of Hunter's & Dickson's in the death records so be sure and check them out : ) http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/duplin.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgreene/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjones/jones.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclenoir/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncnewhan/nh.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpasqu2/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpender/pender.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncperqu2/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmil/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocivwar/mocwindex.html -------Original Message------- From: HUNTR404@cs.com Date: 2/18/2008 4:55:36 PM To: ncduplin@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCDUPLIN] Leslie Brown collection-Hunter I hope someone does the HUNTER family. 1. Re: [NCDUPLIN] Leslie H Brown Jr index cards
    2. Barbara Shore
    3. Hello Diane, I have the following cards from this collection: ANDERSON ARMSTRONG BLOODWORTH BORDEAUX CAMPBELL BLACKMORE SHARPLESS SHEFFIELD WILSON I'll be happy to type these up, but wanted to check with you can make sure you don't already have them from someone else. ARMSTRONG has the most cards, so that will take a while. I'll probably start with the others first. Let me know if I should do all these or which to eliminate. Thanks, Barbara S. Mike & Diane <garebel@embarqmail.com> wrote: Hi list, I see that the Leslie H Brown Jr index cards have stirred up a lot of interest. I have also had someone step forward that has some copies of a few of the cards and they are going to be transcribed for the site. So, I am asking, if anyone has any copies or portions of any of these cards to please consider sending in copies so that we can add the information to the site. These are very valuable resources and will help researchers for years to come. So, if you don't want to transcribe them but have copies please consider sending them to me and I have some people that are very anxious to help transcribe them to get them on the site. As many of you know, Dr Herring's library is closed more than it is open due to a lack of volunteers to open it for fellow researchers. So, if we can get some volunteers to offer themselves a couple hours a week or a month to work in the library that would be a huge help to researchers, and I am sure Dr Herring would be very grateful to you as well. Also, if you live in Duplin and find Dr Herring's library open if you would consider stopping by and copying a few pages of the index cards to be placed on the site I am sure many researchers would be grateful. There will be a disclaimer put on the pages that these are transcribed from photocopies of Leslie H Brown, Jr.'s index cards. So, come on Duplin, search through your papers and see if you might have some of the info from these cards and please consider sending it in to share with others. Thanks!
