According to the Outlaw Genealogy by Albert Timothy Outlaw, published 1930 by P. D. Gold Publishing Co., Wilson, NC.: "Capt. James Outlaw of Duplin County, was born 1744 and died April 22, 1826. His original Will is in the public records for Duplin County, North Carolina, dated 1826. He was a soldier in the Revolution, serving in the Company of his brother, Captain Alexander Outlaw, in an "expedition against the insurgents", 1776, and later as a Lieutenant (N. C. Revolutionary Army Accounts Vol. V, p. 19, folio 1); Commissioner of the town of Sarecta (never developed), Duplin County's first established town; Captain in Duplin militia service 1787 and 1788, as shown by tax records from Captain Outlaw's District, and was for nearly thirty years, a Justice of the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, serving a part of that time as Chairman of said Court. He built the crossing over North East River, which has since been known as Outlaw's Bridge, in Duplin County. His wife, who was Elizabeth Grady, daughter of Mary (Whitfield) and John Grady, was born February 9, 1750, and died September 3, 1830. Her Will is in Duplin County records." His children: Mary, Patience, Edward, Elizabeth, John, James (died young), Alexander, Charity, William, Lewis, Nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: <CGT714@aol.com> To: <ncduplin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 8:56 AM Subject: Re: [NCDUPLIN] Surnames (Outlaw) (Will of James Outlaw ) > Hi , found this years ago on the mailing list, Do not know if this is > your > Alexander or not do not have a date for him but do have a b date for > Patience > as 1770. > > OUTLAW, JAMES (CR.035.801.9/A-367) 17 Apr 1826 - Jan Term 1827 > > son in law JACOB WILLIAMS who Married my oldest dau. Thanks a lot for the data,. The will was made by JAMES OUTLAW (No. 40 in "Outlaw Genealogy" by ALBERT TIMOTHY OUTLAW & ABNER HENRY OUTLAW). His son ALEXANDER was born December 18, 1780, died 1861-2, married Sarah (Sally) Grady, so that eliminates him as my ALEXANDER (#986 IN OG) who was born about 1790 in North Carolina and died in 1885 in Laurens County, Georgia. One of the problems connected with finding my relative is the popularity of ALEXANDER as a first name of the OUTLAWS. The first ALEXANDER OUTLAW (#39 in OG) of Duplin County was born in 1738 and became a powerful political figure in early Tennessee history. His fame probably inspired later OUTLAWS to name one of their sons ALEXANDER although the name appears earlier in England. Again, my thanks for the data. ----- Original Message ----- From: <CGT714@aol.com> To: <ncduplin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 8:56 AM Subject: Re: [NCDUPLIN] Surnames (Outlaw) (Will of James Outlaw ) > Hi , found this years ago on the mailing list, Do not know if this is > your > Alexander or not do not have a date for him but do have a b date for > Patience > as 1770. > > OUTLAW, JAMES (CR.035.801.9/A-367) 17 Apr 1826 - Jan Term 1827 > > son in law JACOB WILLIAMS who Married my oldest dau. Jeannette, would you happen to know anything about a Sally Parker who m Henry Williams and died a short time later (before Aug. 1792.) There were no children unless she died in childbirth and had a stillborn infant. Henry was b Aug. 23, 1769 so they would have both been very young when married. I have no idea who her father was or any information except she was Henry Williams' first wife and then in Aug. 1792 Henry married Nancy Herring. This was in Duplin or that part that became Sampson Co., NC. Dorothy White
