Thompson was in the Civil War according to family history. My dad said that John was a guard in a Richmond Va. Prison. He also said John was wounded. John S. Thompson lived in Onslow Co. NC in the Haw Branch area of the county near the Duplin line and in the 1870 census I can not find him in either county but I am guessing he was in Duplin since a daughter born in 1869 said she was born in Duplin. The Onslow Civil War soldiers list does not have John S. Thompson but I found a John Thompson whose residence was listed as Duplin in 1862 who enlisted there on June 10,l862. He received a disability discharge on Mar 17, 1864. His unit was 3rd Infantry Regiment North Carolina. Does anyone know anything about a John Thompson in this unit. Thanks, Clara _____________________________________________________________________________ ______ Never miss a thing.
