    3. Diane, In looking at the list of surnames, I saw where you were listed on the Brinson's. My gggrandmother was Margaret Brinson who married Joseph Brooks. My greatgrandfather was William Riley Brooks! I have some information gleaned from friends in 2002 that I would be glad to share although you might already have it.... it mentions the Spleight connection.... Also, will you add the following to the surnames I'm looking at, please: 1) Brooks specifically those who lived in Craven, old Pamlico(sp) and Duplin during the 1700-1800's. Line of interest is Spring Brooks born in 1785 who married a Hanna Wheaton(sp?) 2) Add to "Groves" specifically the family of Walter Groves who married Susan Ann (Sudie) Merritt (b:1887) in late 1800, early 1900. I have a picture of Walter holding Lucy Groves taken approx.1920. Also have picture of Rena Merritt, sister of Susan Ann who married Jim Newsome and raised some of Susan Ann's children (Susan Ann died young and children were scattered). 3) Beasley, specifically the line of Auston/Austin Amos Beasley in late 1700's forward. 4) Smith, Archie who married Melva Groves in 1900. I have list of family.... please contact... ======== I have a letter from Bobbie Rivenbark which is about 3 years old and she gives information on family. My daddy was first cousin of the Rivenbarks.... so I have a little information. Also, I don't know how to share the pictures, but I know how to scan..... Hope this helps.... I'm a little bit embarrased because I'm not really organized, but have a lot of information which I will be glad to share. susan groves bareford prince austin, texas > Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2008 15:30:59 -0500> From: garebel@embarqmail.com> To: ncduplin@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [NCDUPLIN] Families of Interest- Rivenbark> > Susan, > > I have added you for Groves and Rivenbark on the surname list: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/surnames.htm > > Thanks! > Diane > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/duplin.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgreene/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjones/jones.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~nclenoir/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncnewhan/nh.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpasqu2/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpender/pender.htm > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncperqu2/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmil/ > http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocivwar/mocwindex.html > -------Original Message------- > > From: barefoot Prince > Date: 2/20/2008 2:56:02 PM > To: ncduplin@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [NCDUPLIN] Families of Interest- Rivenbark > > > I'm still current, PTL! 1. [NCDUPLIN] Surnames Alderman/Chestnut, Quinn/Phillips/ Rigb(e)y
    2. Anita Arean
    3. Hi everyone, I have some information and am looking for more on the following of my Duplin Co ancestors; 1.Sarah Chestnut Alderman, b jan 19, 1792 d. Jun 23,1879, dau of David Chestnut, m. Samuel Alderman 1812 in Sampson Co, NC. from AIA, do not have more information on the Chestnut family. Sarah and Sam'l moved to Bullock Co, GA in 1813 as did some Chestnuts, do no know the connection. 2.Jemima Hall Alderman m David Alderman Sr RS b 1749 in New Jersey m. 1773 in Duplin Co, d183l in Bullock Co GA. Jemima said to be dau of Thomas Hall (will dated 7-5-1764,) and Rachel Goff said to be dau of John Goff. Any more information on earlier family of the Halls and Goffs? Loftin Quinn m. Mary Cannaday- 1.Have a copy of the will of Loftin and estate settlement date in Carteret Co, also settlement of Mary Cannaday Quinn's estate in Duplin Co in 1793. It contains names of all children living then. Is the father of Mary Cannaday the Richard. s/o of James, s/o of Cornelius and Susanna who divorced in Maryland in 1665? They immigrated with son James from England I think. In the divorce papers Mary is to keep all property brought from VA, if so is anything more known about the couple except that Cornelius had become indentured to a man named Garrett, ran away and remainder indentureship sold to a De LA Moyne? I have a partial copy of that event but no date. It is in the Maryland Archives I think. 2. The first immigrant by the name of Quinn I have found is a David Quinn who came over with Thomas Webb in 1685 who was given a grant of land in Maryland to establish a parish. I believe Webb was a Quaker. In his will Webb mentioned a grandson Enoch Quinn, the name of one of Lofttin's sons. Does anyone know of any descendant of that David Quinn or a connection to Loftin? 3.Also the son of Loftin and Mary Cannaday Quinn, James who was administrator of her estate, married first a daughter of Wm Rigby(e)y Sr but do not know her first name, They had 2 children ,Wm Graham and Nancy, who were mentioned in Wm Rigbey's estate settlement. 4. He then married second a Mary, called only the Widow Mary in his estate settlement in 1802. 5. His estate was reviewed regarding the widow dowry in 1808-10 where she was called Mary Bray. Had she remarried to a man named Bray or was her maiden name Bray? She had died because her children were put under guardianship first to a Dickson than to a Hooks. In the same court session there is mention of an orphan minor named Scott Bray, could he have been a son of a second marriage of Mary? 6. In 1795 John Phillips Sr died and named his son John Jr and an unmarried daughter Mary in his will, witnessed by Wm Rigby Sr and Jr and James Quinn. John Sr's widow was named Dorothy. 7. James Quinn and his widow Mary's first child was born in 1797. ( this was David, my progenitor). The following children were named Catherine, Mary, Dorothy, and Cassandra. 8. In 1805 Wm Graham Quinn was put under the guardianship of John Phillips, Jr. In 1810, after the death of Mary widow of James Quinn, there are 2 underage males and no female in his household--could be Wm Graham and David. Nancy Quinn has married and the younger daughters of James and Mary are put under the guardianship of David Hooks. I have found no relationship of the Hooks with Mary Quinn., although the wife of Hooks was sister to the Dickson, first guardian of the Quinn orphans. 8. Around 1818 Wm G, David, Elizabeth widow of Wm Rigby then married to John Phillips and her children all sold their Duplin Co property to a man named Best( a sister of John Phillips, Jr was married to a Best) and all moved to MS. excepting Wm Graham Quinn who went to GA. Elizabeth was the second or third wife of Wm Rigby Sr.I do not know her surname. 9. David Quinn married Rebecca Rigby, the daughter of Elizabeth Rigby Phillips sometime before 1830. They shared a plantation in MS until the death of John Phillips in 1850. Sisters of David married in NC and SC. I will share all other information I have. Anita Arean parean@tampabay.rr.com

The Goss family in Bibb married into a number of NC-sounding surnamed folks (WHITE, BUTLER, AMMONS, JOHNSON, BEATY, etc.) Does anyone else have a strong connection in Bibb County? 3. Fran, No one has sent any to me as yet to be transcribed. There are a couple of people that are transcribing the ones they have, but if I do get any in I will let you know. As far as I know right now I don't think any West files have surfaced. Hopefully someone will take me up on my offer to either pay for the copies or split the cost of the copies if they would go to the library and make copies of some of the files so we can get them posted online. 1. [NCDUPLIN] Leslie Brown Index Cards
    2. Mike & Diane
    3. Hi all, We are really starting to get a collection of the Leslie Brown cards transcribed and online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/lesliebrownindexcards.htm These records cover Delaware River ValleyTidewater Virginia and the Albemarle region of North Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina and in Savannah, Georgia. His research thus covered the eastern seaboard from Philadelphia to Savannah. His work was thorough, meticulous and conscientious. The collection contains the antecedents of a great many Cape Fear families as well as clues to the whereabouts of many of their descendents. If you have any of these cards in your papers, please consider transcribing them or sending me copies so that we can add them to the collection for other researchers to utilize. They are a great resource of information for everyone and we hope to get most if not all of them transcribed and posted online for everyone. Thanks and Happy Hunting!
