Hi Gary, I found these names at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncrevwar/ncrevwar.htm which contains about 20 lists. Checked about 5 and got tired. Will finish later. Found no Dunns in the lists I checked. I also have a list of officers who signed an Oath of Allegiance at Valley Forge if you are interested. No Baileys or Dunns there. The list starts with Geo. Washington. Have been out of pocket for a few days. Went to the memorial service of my 98 year old aunt in Star City, Arkansas. My Dad's youngest sister who was the last of his siblings. I saw a first cousin there I had not seen since 1951 when we buried my grandfather in Star City. Almost met about a dozen second cousins I had never seen. We had relatives come from Norway and Hawaii. Aunt Leta's daughter Pat who I stay in touch with, or she stays in touch with me, lives in Galveston. Her daughter Holly was on the Ladies Professional Tennis Tour and married a Norwegian. I also visited the Crow farm (Aunt Leta married a Crow) which Pat inherited from her father. It has a farm house built in 1874 and I saw my grandfather's 1893 Diploma from the Memphis College of Medicane at the farm. My cousin Pat is amazing. She has to be at least 76 years old. Still plays tennis and works out three days a week. Told me she takes no medicine except vitamins. My wife had sinus surgery today, so I am back keeping house and no golf. These are lists of men and usually have a pay frequency code in the right hand columns. I did not see a reference in the archives catalog to a pay voucher slip related to specific indivuals on these lists that I was searching for. I know sometimes there is a pay voucher card with information on the payment and a hole stamped through it showing that it was paid. Diane, Your note of today wins by a landslide! That was how this should have been handled. The Foundation &/or members should have contacted you privately instead of using this List for their airing of grievances - that was very poorly, impolitely done! Thank you for trying to further all research of so many, concerning all those NC counties List for which you spend so much of your time! I would hope the Foundation would be more responsive to people inquiring about information contained in the Library - as we all know that so many do not have the extra time nor resources to delve deeply into research on families until their later years - which can also be a limiting factor in their travel to sites - our world of research has changed so greatly since I have been doing genealogy & will do so even more rapidly now as we have already seen from the advent of the Internet less than some 15 yrs ago - with it being available to private citizens now rather than just the Universities, etc, as it was. If the Foundation can't adapt to these changing times, the risk to the infor-mation will be to make it available only to those who might possibly be able to travel to the site on a specific day & time - or that it will only be available to those who are geographically closer to the Library. In either of those cases, the information will only be exposed to the few rather than to the many it would seem Dr. Herring might have meant for it to be. Getting back on subject - Women's History Month: My contribution to Women's History Month will be to include the fact that in many accounts, it is not shown that Elizabeth (HOLLINGSWORTH) was the 1st wife of John CARROLL. She was not shown in J. Adger Stewart's book on the descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth. I have an approx date of birth which Jackie P. has shared w/me, as she has the sister, Ann "Nancy" (HOLLINGSWORTH) who mar John CARROLL after Elizabeth died, sometime aft. March 1801 when hers & John CARROLL's son, James CARROLL was born. Thank you, Diane - for all! Sarah **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. Hi Myra, Is the Matthew Miles Jones mention below the S/o of Elisha & Catherine Winders Jones, b ca 1806 ? If so could you help update some in that line, I have his brother Joel as going to to Choctaw Co., Al & lived with James & Cealy Slone Grimes. letter # 66 (Letters can be found on Duplin Co. Archives page) 1844: Letter dated January 1 of this year, to Jesse Grimes from William Grimes: "Joel Jones left Duplin a few days before I arrive there last [1843] spring, with the portion of his fathers property that fell to him and Matthew [Jones his brother] and came to Sumter County where they both had been living. Joel and t[w]o of his negroes lived with brother James and died very suddenly, 28th October, returning from watering his horse, laid down by the way and died, and was found immediately. Rosanna can tell you about James and his children. She will tell you what kind of weather we had while gone to Godfrey's, but she will fail in a description of the road. Not being disposed to trouble you with a long epistle, I stop here and ask forgiveness for not witting more." Also do you know the parents of Charity Grimes who married John Jones, brother of Joel & Matthew? The way my line fits in is that Catherine Winders was a sister to my direct line of Sarah Winders that m James Grimes, who was a son of Hugh Grimes of Duplin Co., NC. Please post to the website - someone may be able to help get more clues to solve this mystery. I am trying to sort out the children of Absolum Strickland (b 1750?) and his son Richard Strickland (b 1780?). I think the change in family structure between 1800 and 1810 can be explained by Absolum's sickness and death, resulting in one of his sons (Matthew) becoming executor and getting the family farm, with several of his younger siblings staying on the farm, and the older ones moving on. In the 1800 Census , Absolom - 2M under 10, 2M 10-15, 1M 16-25, 1F under 10, 1F 10-15, 1F 26-44 (5 sons, 2 daughters, 1 wife) The names that can possibly fit the categories of the 1800 Census are: 2M under 10 - Charles (1792), Jesse (1797) 2M 10-15 - Wilson (1786), Hardy (1788) 1M 16-25 - Joseph (1788), Richard (1780), Matthew (1780), Ephraim (1782) {note Joseph, Richard, or Matthew could be out of the house by this time} 1F under 10, 1F 10-15, - Agnes, Rebecca 1F 26-44 - Sarah Huggins When I read the 1810 census for Matthew and Richard, I am trying to sort children by birth date and household. 1810 Census , Richard - 1M under 10, -M 10-15, -M 16-25, 1M 26-44,1F under 10, -F 10-15, 1F 26-44 (1 son, 1 daughter, 1 wife) 1810 Census , Matthew - 2M under 10, 1M 10-15, 2M 16-25, 1M 26-44,1F 10-15, 1F 16-25, -F 26-44, 1F 45+ (5 sons, 2 daughters, 1 wife) The names for Richard that can possibly fit the categories of the 1810 Census are: 1M under 10 - Bolen (1801) Hardy Jackson (1806), Matthew (1807) (which is correct?), { I also have Jesse (1797), Wilson D (1799), Abraham?} 1F under 10 - Elizabeth (1809), Rebecca (1803) (which is correct?) 1F 26-44 - Sarah Sally? The names for Matthew that can possibly fit the categories of the 1810 Census are: 2M under 10 - Richardson (1810) who else fits here? Bolen, Matthew, 1M 10-15 - (1795-1800) (Jesse, Wilson D, listed under Richard) 2M 16-25 - (1785-1794) Wilson, Hardy, Charles, children of Absolum? 1M 25-44 -Matthew (1780) 1F 10-15, - (1795-1800)? 1F 16-25 - (1785-1794) Ferribe Honeycutt? 1F 45+ -(1765) Sarah Huggins? If this was the year after Absolum died, and Matthew became the head of household (Nathan Sr and Charles were adults with separate families), Matthew could have had Jesse (1797), Wilson D (1799), Abraham, Bolen (1801), Matthew (1807?) - That would put him and his wife and son Richardson, plus six other people (Sarah Huggins and 5 children of Absolum) at the family farm. This theory can eliminate several of the names under Richard because they duplicate children of Absolum & Sarah Huggins born between 1778 (Joseph) to 1797 (Jesse). It also makes more sense that Richard would have had children from 1806 (Hardy Jackson) to 1830 (Calvin Frebert) (24 year span) Is Jesse listed as son of Richard ( I think that Jesse was not Richard's son)? Any ideas on how to confirm who was where in 1810 or actual births for Richard or Matthew? Steven G.
