Betty, hi! I am looking for information on possibly descendants of your Samuel SELLERS. Was Jacob SELLERS enumerated Duplin Co. 1810 descended from/related to Samuel? 1840 Baker Co, GA two SELLERS b NC were enumerated: A.C. and Samuel. A.C. was born ca 1810; unfortunately I don't have the approximation of Samuel's birth. Would like any info on these SELLERS. A.C. was single, or living alone, when enumerated. 1850 Baker Co., GA one Elijah SELLERS b NC ca 1813 was enumerated. Elijah married one Susan WEST and lived out his days in Baker/Mitchell Co., GA. 1850 Wright SELLERS was enumerated Baker Co., GA. Wright married Miriam MERRITT in Duplin Co., NC. This fact is what causes me to think the other SELERS may have been from Duplin. 1850 one Jesse SELLERS was enumerated in Baker Co., GA. Jesse married Eliza WEST who was born NC ca 1831. Obviously, I am interested in SELLERS/WEST connections in both GA and NC. Any clues, information, sources appreciated. I have some information on these above-referenced families after they moved to GA; excepting A.C. and Samuel. Thanks. I am interested in the PRIDGEN/PRIDGEON name and all the families that they married into. Someone posted a note about the BOWDEN family and I wonder if you have any Bowdens marrying into the Pridgen family in NC. I ask because in Texas, there is a John BOWDEN PRIDGEN and we know the Texas PRIDGENS came from NC and wonder if your BOWDENS went with them. Thanks. Carol Carol P. Can anyone tell me more about William Pridgen, who was born June 6, 1732 in Halifax Co., NC, married Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, and had the following children: Mary, Sarah, Thomas, Francis, Hannah, Elizabeth, Nathan, and William? He had lived to be well over 100 years old, served in the Revolutionary War from Duplin Co., and eventually moved to Bladen Co., where he applied for his war pension. What I need to know is which children moved to Georgia and Alabama. My husband's relative is George Washington Pridgen of Coffee Co., GA (1832-1918) and his father was William Pridgen (born 1802, NC), who married Mary Elizabeth Merritt. I'm thinking that maybe William the old man was William the younger's grandfather. Does anyone know the link here? Thanks so much, Debbie Wooten
In issue number 70, "Footnotes", published by the Duplin County Historical Society, Rose Hill, NC, November 1998, there is an article "Henry McCulloh: Land Ventures in Duplin and Sampson Counties from 1738-1767".
I'm looking for this book, edited by McGowan & McGowan, 1971, Kenansville, NC. Would like to purchase one, as it has several mentions of my ancestors, including Joseph GROVES and the OUTLAWS. Does anyone know of internet connection that might deal in used or second-hand geneaological books? Thank you.
I have just subscribed to this listserv for Duplin County, NC. I am descended from Samuel SELLERS, R.S. born abt. 1744 in Duplin County s/o Samuel SELLERS. March 12, 1689/90 in Upper Darby, PA married to Sara SMITH d/o John SMITH and Eleanor DOLBY. I can not find this connection. I have some specific questions: 1. Does any one have proof of the PA / NC connection? 2. If not, who was Samuel SELLERS, R.S.'s mother? 3. What was Hannah's last name? 4. Who were Zilpha's grandparents? I have a lot of information on descendents. Any help with ancestors would be appreciated. Thank you, Betty
I am interested in any information/documents containing the name of John EVERS. He and his wife Mary resided there in the 1750-1800 timeframe. He was a "chain carrier" and his name appears on some land deeds and surveys. I have never found the maiden name of Mary. I am also interested in John Evers, JR, son of John and Mary Evers, who married Sarena Mills, daughter of James and Rebecca Hicks Mills. Any information or reference is appreciated. Miriam E. Since I just joined this list yesterday, this is my first message, intended to let you all know my interests in Duplin County. I am descended from Thomas and Lucretia Brewer, but know very little about them beyond the fact that they existed. In October 1856, Lucretia, who was then in her mid to late 80's, swore an affidavit in an attempt to obtain a pension as the widow of a veteran of the War of 1812. Thomas had died in the 1840s and Lucretia, in her affidavit, said that she and Thomas had been married in Duplin County, North Carolina on 30 Jun 1792. I have not been able to find any record of this marriage in any Duplin County records I've found so far. The LDS Church, in it's International Genealogy Index, has entries for Thomas and Lucretia Brewer, and for several of their children. The source on each of the entries is "McCullough history by Helen Orndorff." Again, I have never been able to find any other record or reference to a "McCullough History," or to Helen Orndorff. Today, I did see a message from Florence D. Moore that mentioned McCullohs in Duplin County, and also mentioned that many Ulster Scots came to Duplin County. In a book written in 1939, a Warren Brewer published an interview with Thomas and Lucretia's youngest son, Andrew Jackson Brewer, in which he, Andrew Jackson, said that he believed his parents to be Scotch-Irish. Anyhow, I would like very much to hear from anyone that can give me any hints as to where to go from here. Bill Brewer wwb@ix.netcom.com

SEARCHING: Thomas Goff lived in Duplin and Sampson County North Carolina. He was born 1754 in Edgecombe Co. but his father, John Goff fell into Duplin Co. when it was formed from Edgecombe. Thomas married Tomzin Mathis, daughter of Edmond. Does anyone have a list of their children? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Melba > Southern Families: http://members.tripod.com/~mallen4896/Index.html
John Goff of Duplin Co. was an early settler in Duplin he owned many acres of land in the County. As his children begin to move South John stayed in Duplin. He was an old man of 90 years in 1807 when he had a marriage contract between himself and Elizabeth Hennecy. She in return would care for him in his old age and would not run him into debt. In return for her preformance she would receive all the remainder of his estate. > Who was this Elizabeth Hennecy? It appears she was about fourty five (45) years of age and had children. In 1793 before John married Elizabeth he deeded John Hennecy one hundred acres of land near his plantation. Indicating there is some kind of family tie here before the marriage. Can anyone shed light on this family mystery? > Thanks for your kindness Melba Southern Families: http://members.tripod.com/~mallen4896/Index.html

Looking for any information on any GRIMSLEY lines that lived in Duplin Co. This family may have moved on the Bladen and Columbus Counties. Thanks Bob iertg@aol.com
I am fairly new to genealogy and have hit a dead end with my gggrandfather. His name is James Newcomb born 4 July 1842 and died in Wayne County 21 September 1919. There are several stories about Jim. One is that his parents were full Tuscarora Indians that were executed. A hunter by the name of Newcomb found Jim's parents in a wooded area of Seven Springs, Duplin County. The hunter took Jim and his siblings in and while they took his name he and his wife did not adopt them. The other story is that his parents were deceased when he and is siblings were very young. The children were bonded out to various families. When Jim was of age he was released. When the Civil War broke out he joined the North because he said he knew what it was like to be a slave. I have information passed down in the family that his mother's name was Mary Ward and one of his siblings, a sister, was named Tempe. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marie
