I personally do not feel that trivia belongs on a genealogy web site. I feel it is available to assist people searching for their ancestors and these people should not have to read junk mail on this type of page! I mean no offense; I just feel strongly about misuse of this great site! Fred, there is a lot of documentation on the Rivenbark line. Audrey Rivenbark has put it into a book "Rivenbarks of Eastern North Carolina." There are many Frederick Rivenbarks in the book. If you want to e-mail me directly I can determine which one is yours and send you the information out of the book. The book goes back to the mid-1700s as far as lineage. She also included the surnames of those who intermarried into the Rivenbarks. If I can be of assistance, let me know. Brenda
Hi Listmembers! I am looking for someone who does Courthouse research (Kenansville, Duplin Co.) for a fee. Any referrals, suggestions appreciated. A family matter has prevented my trip and there are original records I would like to have. Individual doing research should have experience or be willing to be directed. Thanks for any help. Hi Listmembers! Is anyone researching one Frederic RIVENBARK/RIVERBARK who lived Duplin Co. from at least 1820 to 1850? The Frederic I seek served in the SeaFencibles during War of 1812. Thanks. Fran
I am researching the Murphy Family along with the related families of Lanier, White, and others of Duplin & Sampson counties. I am looking for information on the ancestors/descendants of James WHITE, born abt 1814 in Sampson, NC; married to Elizabeth LANIER, born abt 1817 in Sampson or Duplin Co., NC; the daughter of John LANIER and Esther ?? I am also searching for the parents of Hillory MURPHY who married Margaret WELLS. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you. ------------- Noland White nwhite@utk.edu
Joggi (Jacob) Boni brought his family from Frenkendorf, Switzerland, to New Bern in 1738. He soon moved to what eventually became the southern part of Duplin County. The surname was Anglicized as Boney. Descendants of Jacob Boney, Jr., moved to South Carolina. His youngest brother Weinbert (Wimberk) Boney married Catherine Teachey and stayed in Duplin. His descendants number in the thousands. His daughter Nancy married Jacob Wells III. They had 14 children and some 113 grandchildren, I believe. Boney was used frequently as a given name in quite a few southern Duplin families. Hi All, i have a copy of a letter that was written April 3,1962 to Mrs M.W. (Georgiann) Grimes (Georgiann was the dau of Henry Edwin Grimes and Altie Myra Nelson) the letter was sent from Goldsboro,N.C. This may be a little long, but i think maybe this may get to someone that has futher info on some of the names that may be mention, There is one name that Hugh Grimes of Houma,La has come across in the late 1700's and feels like this name might have been a son of Hugh Grimes of Duplin Co., NC,but the name never came about again in NC until this letter ,the name being JUNIUS Grimes. PLEASE if anyone has any info let us know. Thank you. Dear Mrs Armistead, I am forwarding your letter to Mr JUNE Grimes, Washington,N.C. whom i believe will be able to give you the Information you desire. I have been very unsucessful in tracing my family tree, having been able to go only as far back as my Ggrandparents, Hezekiah and Rebecca Grimes. There seems to be two sets of Grimes's around Goldboro, and after talking with members of both families, I believe the Grimes's at Washington N.C. are the ones you are looking for. If Mr. JUNE Grimes is unable to help you, let me know and I will help you contact Grimes families in other cities. Please let me know if you find out anything, Particularly if you find out anything that ties in with my Grandparents. Sincerely Yours, JIMMIE GRIMES From JUNIUS D.GRIMES Attorney At Law 111 East Second Street Washington ,N.C. April 18, 1962 To Mrs M.W. Armistead ( now deceased) 1999 Box 624 Fort Stoctton, Tx. Dear Mrs Armistead: Jimmie Grimes of Goldsboro, N.C. forwared me your letter of March 26,for reply. I am a decendant of WILLIAM Grimes of Norfolk,Va. and have what i consider a complete family record of his branch of the family. I have gone through it and think i have some information that i think will be of interest to you. Ever since recieving your letter ,i have been rather busy, and unable to take the time to give you the information which i wanted and at this time i am getting ready to go out of town so will be unable to give it to you now. I will let you hear from me as soon as i return and can possibly give you some information about the family.(there is not a letter in Georgiann's papers from this JUNIUS, to bad it might have what we needed to connect that Wm to the HUGH Grimes of Duplin Co.,N.C,) I am not acquanted with Jimmie Grimes of Goldsboro, but am glad to know about him. Yours Very Truly JUNIUS D. GRIMES Jr.

Dear List Members, I am breaking my own rule about genealogy and history only on our lists. I am copying this from health related support list I belong to. I am looking for information on William and MaryAnn Cooper. In 1850 census their ages correspond with approx birth years of 1824 and 1822. They were listed in Snead's Ferry area of Onslow county. They also had a son John Henry age 1 listed. My great grandfather(ASA WILLIAM) was their son, and have not been able to trace anything on them. In 1870 census, Mary Cooper,8, was living with a Gurganus family, and William,11,was living with another Gurganus family. William was the right age as ASA WM. The Gurganus families were brothers and there also was a Gurganus sister named MaryAnn born March 1822. I have not been able to make the link, only be speculation. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, is your Rebecca Jane Ezell really an Ezell or could she be UZELL? I've seen it at a library and made notes from it of my family. In many cases the parents of the bridal couple are named. Margaret - I looked up Braddock WILLIAMS on the new LDS test site and there is a marriage date "abt 1838, NC" to Mary GREGORY. There are other references to Braddock WILLIAMS also. Check it out at: http://www.familysearch.org/default.asp Pat B

The title of book is, MISSING ORIGINAL MARRIAGE RECORDS, Duplin County, North Carolina, 1851-1872, Abstract of Marriages, by Kellon Maready for Duplin County Historical Society, 1993. I have copy if anyone needs lookup - one name per email please. Fred. -- Fred. M. Hintze, Jr., M.Div., Retired Genealogical Research HINTZE, MOHR, STOLTER (Germany) BORDEAUX, CHESNUTT, HERRING, JOHNSTON, McLENDON (Pender and Sampson, NC, Counties)
I am trying to piece together the family tree of the HILBURNS who were in Duplin County as early as 1755. From the Sampson County Historical Society, I received abstracts of land records on John HILBURN, from 1755 to 1769. Also, there were abstracts on Hamblin HILBURN from 1767 to 1784 (that part was Sampson County by then). At the same time, there was a Vaughn HILBURN who was a part of the Edgecomb Regiment in 1767; and then he lived in Dobbs County (part of which became Wayne County) from 1769 to 1789. He was then found in Sampson County from 1789 to 1793. In the 1800 Census, he was in Brunswick County, and in Robeson County in 1803 and 1810. Hamblin HILBURN, in the mean time, was in Bladen County in the 1790 and 1800 censuses, then in the 1810 and 1820 censuses in Columbus County. Some of the people born and raised in the area ended up in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, evidenced by the 1850 census which stated birthplace. A Vaughn HILBURN was in Laurens County, Georgia; a Henry HILBURN in Alabama; a Frederick HILBURN in Copiah County, Mississippi; and a John HILBURN in Escambia County, Florida. One last note: I found in the LDS Library, in the IGI, a Vaughn Hilburn who married Elizabeth Worrel with listed children of Vaughn, John, James, Henry, and Benjamin born in Dobbs County. If this is true, I do not know the what sources were used to reach that conclusion. Any help would be appreciated. George GBHilburn@AOL.com
