    1. Thank you for Hurricane help
    2. I want to thank everyone who attempted to help me in getting my sister and numerous neighbors home to Pender and New Hanover counties from upstate. You were very kind to take the time to send emails with suggestions and help. I know our genealogical emails are not normally used for such personal requests but with the state of extreme emergency and life-threatening road conditions I knew that you would do anything you could to help us. Most of them have made it home now. It took three times the normal time and many, many extras miles but it was worth it. Again, God Bless you all for your kindness.

    3. An email I received from a family member: Friday Went for a ride to get a closer look at the storm damage. Some small towns are under water . Understand the only casualties were mostly traffic related, (due to stupidity.) But I can understand why people take chances. It will be some time before power can be restored. Beulaville is still cut off from the north , west and south. Don;t know about the east . But they have power . We are still using the generator. Thank god for generators!. Hallsville and Chinquapin are under water with homes and cars flooded I-40 washed out between Warsaw and Kenansville Magnolia exits Hwy 50 under water a few feet South of intersection of hwy 50 and Hallsville Rd. intersection. Hallsville road under water to within 3 miles of hwy 50 Pasture Branch Rd . North of hwy 50 under water. Chinquapin Completely under water on hwy 41 north of town water ends in front of the old school . Don't know about the other end. Can only guess that it is under water at least to the intersection of hwy 41 and hwy 50. Water has receded in some areas. Hwy 41 clear from Chinquapin to Beulaville. Old Chinquapin Rd. S end under water at intersection of hwy 41 Jackson Store under water between the dump and Lyman. Water has receded at least 5 feet here. Looks like the dump was under at least 3 feet of water. Hallsville Completely under water Past Blizzard Town Rd. Almost to Judy Mobley Lane east Blizzard Town Rd. under water to within 300 feet of Williams Rd. North of Hallsville. Hwy 111 north of Beulaville under water just west of Turkey Branch Rd. Homes and cars flooded. Hwy 41 from Beulaville and Pink Hill was flooded but now clear. Hwy 241 North of Beulaville under water. Have heard that Cedar Fork was flooded. Hwy 24 West of Beulaville. Between Sandlin Rd. and Miller Rd. Blocked under water. Update! - Saturday the 18th: Hallsville still under water but down about a foot. Hwy 24 is now open, probably all the way to Jacksonville. Hwy 111 also open. Lake Chinquapin still there but down about a foot or so. Hwy 41 and 50 still blocked by high water. Don't know about I-40 but suspect that it is now open. Water is going down pretty fast every place except Hallsville and Chinquapin. It looks like the worst is over. Even saw a couple of CP&L trucks heading in this general direction. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

    3. Water flows down stream. The water draines into the small creeks which empty into the rivers & flows down to the ocean. This takes a little time, Duplin co. is also flooded & is washing down to you. We will soon have the water from Raleigh, ect, pluss the 15+ inches we got, that will be heading on down. 2. Hello, I am in Virginia and live in a direct flood zone. We are fine but the other cities around us (not so called flood areas are really under). There is no where for the creek and lake waters to go for awhile in the city areas. My heart goes out to all who have this flooding. There is an area in VA that has no water safe for drinking and some flood waters made it up to the roofs of the homes. Parts of Hwy 64 are closed down even today. I have family in the New Hanover (Wilmington) area and hope they are doing fine. I have not been able to hear from all of them at this time. Also have family in the Hampstead area. Everyone is truly in my thoughts and prayers!!! Ash in VA wolf1912@aol.com

    1. Hurricane update and question
    2. Here in Wilmington we thought we dodged a bullet. We were wrong. Our home is 1 block from the intracoastal waterway and water did NOT get into our home. Unfortunately, one of our rental homes is 2 blocks from Bradley Creek and had 4 feet of water inside the home. It is NOT located in a flood zone so we don't have flood insurance. Everything inside is ruined. Much of New Hanover County is impassable. My brother lives in Long Beach. He can't get back home to check because ALL roads to Long Beach are flooded - Hwy 17, Hwy 133, Hwy 87, etc. Some parts of Hwy 17 and I-40 have 3-4 feet of water across it. Can anyone tell me why if it has stopped raining the flood waters aren't expected to crest until at least a week? I don't understand how the water can keep rising if it isn't raining? 3. I just heard from my mother in Duplin County. She said the power is out, however, she still has phone service. The some of roads are flooded or washed out including a part of I-40. They were told that there is no way into or out of Beaulaville in Duplin County, but they were able to find a way around it, only because they have a motor home and were able to drive through 2 feet of water across the road. Not safe for any car. There are a lot of trees uprooted. She said there is very little damage to the homes. She has a mobile home and only lost a couple of shingles. I hope that all of your families are as lucky as my mother. If you haven't heard from them yet, it's probably because they haven't been able to get back due to flooding of the roads. Remember too, that cordless phones won't work when the power is out, so if they don't have an old style phone that doesn't need power to work, they won't be able to call. To those of you who weathered the storm, I'm so glad that the storm wasn't what they had predicted and hope that all of your damages (if any) were small. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

    3. Does anyone know, who are the parents of William J. Hall, born about 1837, and if so, who are his siblings. William J. Hall was married to a Mary S. the same age. They were living in Hallsville, NC per the 1870 and 1880 census records. Direct neighbors with the same last name in 1870 are: Elizabeth Hall age 48, John Hall age 40& wife Elizabeth age 30, and Lavinia? Hall age 39. I believe they are all directly related to William J. Hall. Thanks for all your help. Judy ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
