Hi- I don't know of a list of those who took the oath. But I have a family tree maker CD that lists Maryland & Delaware Rev. Records, and it lists after a soldiers name that he took the oath & where he fought ect. I would guess there are others out there somewhere. A good challenge for 2000. Jackie in Shingle Springs, CA.
Merv and Jackie, thanks for your help. I did look at the DE Oath and that is exactly what I want. Now for step two: Is there a site containing lists of those males who "took" the Oath? Thanks again for all your help. An oath of allegiance was required of Confederate POW's swearing their loyalty to the united states before tgeir release. Keith Lanier
Hi the oath for Delaware can be found at http://www.sar.org/dessar/delaoath.htm I know I have a copy somewhere for Maryland as some of my Hollingsworth's were there at that time as well as in Duplin Co. Not sure if it is the same one or not, maybe each state had their own? If you find out would be interested in it. In the meantime I wil try and find the one I copied for MD. Jackie in CA. ----- Original Message ----- From: Fred Powell, Sr. <fpowellsr@starpower.net> To: <NCDUPLIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 22, 1999 7:44 AM Subject: Oath of Allegiance > Hi Listmembers! > > Is anyone aware of a post-Revolutionary War "Oath of Allegiance required of > males? > > Where may I find this record for Duplin County? > > Thanks to all for all the help and Merry Christmas! > > Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net > >
Listmembers, the actual record might have been Oath of Fidelity rather than Oath of Allegiance. In some states the Oath was required during the Revolutionary War rather than afterwards. Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net
Hi Listmembers! Is anyone aware of a post-Revolutionary War "Oath of Allegiance required of males? Where may I find this record for Duplin County? Thanks to all for all the help and Merry Christmas! Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net

I am searching for a family that has Hiram WRIGHT in it. He was born around 1820 or so as he was 47 when he joined the Confederacy in 1862. I believe he was born in Duplin County, but spent his later life in Cumberland county, and I believe, but can't prove, he died in TX as that is where he went with his daughter, Charity and son in law Robert Newell, also known as Edward R. Newell. Any info will be helpful. Margaret in Florida
One of the packages that went out this morning has Gene's Lambs from book # 13. The pages are stapled together with "#13" written at the top of the first page and LAMB is highlighted in each entry. Don't worry about it, just toss it out. I've already recopied them. Talk about lost Lambs. Dee
Hi Listmembers! I have read that one Henry MCCULLOUGH obtained title to some seventy thousand acres in the 1730's. These acres were located in/near Northeast Cape Fear, Neuse River and Black River in Duplin Co. Around 1736 approximately 400 Scots-Irish settled on these acres. Question: Can anyone direct me to a source for obtaining names/origins of these Scots-Irish? Thank you. Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net

I have been researching the followinf families: ALDERMAN (David), BRICE (Joseph & Francis), MURPHY (Timothy), STALLINGS(Shadrack, Martha & Wiley), WELLS. Some related names are LANIER, NEWTON, SOUTHERLAND & TEACHY. It seems that most all of these families moved to southwest Georgia in Nov 1883. Jerome, You're batting a thousand! My e-mail this morning to Don was concerning his search for, in part, the parents of Elizabeth Fryar, who is buried in WELLS CHAPEL CEM. Now we know why she's buried there. There's an old country expression "we haven't had this much excitement since the pigs ate Grandma". That's how I feel. Dee
Dee, Thanks for helping me make contacts but my Duplin families are Fryer, Blount and Mizell. Barbara
Donald, Since I haven't see any responses to your request as yet try these three very helpful people. Jackie Purdy - Fryars Fran Powell - Fryars Barbara Parish - Newtons Their e-mail addresses are above. Hope you make a connection. Dee
