    2. Don Eggert
    3. Roy, Cannot answer that question, as it relates more to census taking and I don't have that info. But can give you an idea of where.... Cypress Creek, if you look at a map of Duplin County, lies above its line with New Hanover County and runs from the NE Cape Fear River toward Onslow County with Black Swamp and Nine Mile Creek extending from it. Ah.. another place to look for your Hunter folks is in A.B. Pruitt's Abstracts of Land Entries for Duplin County, 1778-1795; and Sampson Co, 1734-1795 and 1853-1860... if you've not looked there yet. Someone on the list might have a copy. 1. meaning of orphan court rulings in 1800
    2. Anita Arean
    3. When the courts decided the guardianship of an orphan child what happened when he was placed under an uncle or other relative? Did he become a 'ward' like in the movies of Old England and his guardian merely oversee his education and property until he became of age, or did the child actually live with his guardian? If he had a step-mother living would he likely stay in the house with her even though she had no legal rights over his property and would not the house be legally his if he were the eldest? Also what is the difference between apprenticeship and indentureship in the case of a minor, and could the courts order indentureship of a minor orphan if he had inherited property rights of his own? At what age could he claim and dispose of his inherited properties?
