    1. [NCDUPLIN] HGS speakers and their books
    2. Martha Marble
    3. All of the speakers at the HGS Symposium on Oct 28th are published authors and will have their books for sale at the Symposium. Roger Kammerer has recently published "Recollections of Pitt County" which was well reviewed in this month's OUR STATE. In addition he is the co-editor of "Forgotten Tales of North Carolina" a delightful little book of strange tales all over the state. Dr. Bruce Pruitt is a well known abstractor in NC, Tenn, and SC. In my opinion, he is one of the best in the state and is currently working on Craven Co Deeds among other areas and if you research our area sooner or later you are going to work in Craven Co. You can see his list of books at http://members.tripod.com/abpruitt He is bringing me several books as a donation to Heritage Place and the Kellenberger Room. Laura Spence and Dennis Jones are two of the three authors, along with Kay Ogle, of the HGS Jones Co Cemetery Book, vol 1. Understand Vol 2 may be ready by the 28th. For more information on the Symposium go to http://www.historicalpreservationgroup.org/hgsweb/index.htm

    1. [NCDUPLIN] Duplin County Cemeteries
    2. Mike & Diane
    3. Hi list, I don't know how many of you are aware of this but there are laws on the books now to protect our cemeteries in North Carolina. I contacted the Register of Deeds for Duplin County and he did not have the list of abandoned cemeteries that the County Commissioners are required by law to provide. Won't you please take a few minutes and go to the page I have added to the Duplin site and read the statutes and the email I sent to the county commissioners regarding the plight of our cemeteries history and heritage. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/dupcemendanger.htm Also, if each of you would take a few minutes and contact one or all of the commissioners it would be greatly appreciated. We all need to work together to preserve the cemeteries for ourselves and future generations! I also need volunteers that are willing to take some time once a week, twice a week, once a month or as often as you can to go out and transcribe the cemeteries in Duplin County. If you are interested in this or any of the other projects that we have going on the Duplin site please feel free to contact me. Thanks!
