    3. Thanks Lura! Maybe we can get her in there soon before she wants to give up! : ) If the things you mention and the email I sent on how to change and delete cookies, etc doesn't work I will walk her step by step on how to get to the pages. Pat, Are you continuing to roll down the page until you can go no further At all? It appears that the page may end where Diane has the "Search" Box, but it does not. There is a second section entitled "ATTENTION PLEASE". There is yet another section, It is in this section that each line is A hyperlink to a page that has the information. When you run the Mouse across these sentences, you should see the cursor change shape. In Outlook Express mine changes to a hand with one finger pointing Upward. Try clicking on these underlined sentences. If nothing happens when you click on those sentences, it may be that Your browser is set up to not allow HTML code. This is a choice on Either your browser or some security software. In order to take Advantage of much of the genealogy material, we must sometimes choose A "Medium" security setting. I hope one of these ideas helps get you to the great material Diane is Posting for all of us to use. 3. Pat, What browser are you using for the internet? If you are using IE try doing these things: 1. clear your cache by going to the top of the IE page click on TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then DELETE COOKIES and DELETE FILES. This will clear any old information in your computer that is no longer needed. 2. after your cache is clear then at the top again click on TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then click on the Privacy tab make sure this is set on MEDIUM this will allow you to view all web pages without any interference. 3. then click on TOOLS AGAIN thenINTERNET OPTIONS then on Security. Click on Custom Level...make sure towards the bottom of the box it says RESET CUSTOM SETTINGS is set on MEDIUM. 4. Go to START, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then do a disk clean up. Make sure ALL boxes are checked then delete them. This WILL NOT harm your computer or delete anything that will mess up your computer. It only deletes saved copies of pages and unneccessary things. Then try and click on this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/duplin htm Let me know if this works for you! 2. >From 1660 until well into the 1700s hundreds of Barbadians migrated to ports all up and down the eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine. During this time my family had individuals to settled in Maine, Surry, VA and Charleston, SC (that we know of). I took the following excerpt from History of North Carolina : from the earliest discoveries to the present time, Raleigh: A. Williams & Co., 1880, 1048 pgs. "Sir John Yeamans had established his colony on the banks of the Cape Fear River, eight miles below the present city of Wilmington, in 1665. Under his prudent management the settlement in the second year after its establishment numbered eight hundred people........encouragement to immigration was not neglected. Some came from Massachusetts and pecuniary help in their behalf was received from their Northern friends. So great was the drain upon the population of Barbadoes the authorities there forbade the further exodus of that community." I checked my Barbados records and did find that there were Page families living there at that that time. There is a lot of speculation about this man's wife, but a fairly well known NC genealogist, Leora McEachern, who researched the family (her husband had Page ancestors) did not ID a spouse. It appears he lived in New Hanover Co, moving to Duplin Co between 1820 and 1825. It is interesting that you mention these folks came down from Cape May, NJ as that is where the Page emigrants I mentioned were said to have lived. >Also, we have one community, Varnamtown, that was settled by families >coming from Massachusetts, including Varnam/Varnum. Mass was the other state where the DNA match is best. The DNA testing has proved very interesting. It has blown out of the water two theories about where my family had its origins. One family member had us descended from Col. John Page of Williamsburg, VA. (He was quite a famous man in his day and I think most Pages in the US with an interest in family history would like to think they are descended from him.) But my DNA is very distant from that of Pages who can prove descent from the good Colonel. Another school of thought is that we are descended from Pages (unrelated to the Colonel) who came down to NC to VA, but here too the DNA disproves it. There seems to be no way to get past this brick wall. >This community is having a HUGE oyster roast this Saturday if you are >anywhere within driving distance of Brunswick County. $20 per person or >fish plates $10--Susan Usher Eggert That really sounds inviting. I love seafood and I would love to be there, but about 3,000 miles stands in the way - I live in Lacey, Washington state, about 50 miles south of Seattle. My Dad was from Warsaw, NC but he went north during the Great Depression and married a Yankee. He never went back to live in "God's Country" as he always called it. You may see the family name on signs around the eastern part of the state. My uncle, now deceased, owned a hardware/home appliance store in Warsaw and I think there are now 2, maybe 3, Page Home Appliance stores in the state.
