Looks like someone may have misread or mistranscribed the record. Lura is right, there has never been a Blufield County in NC. Newport is in Beaufort County, always has been. Try searching the Beaufort County web site or post a message to their forum. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbeafor/ncbeau.htm -Beaufort web site http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbeafor/boquery.htm -Beaufort queries Good luck! There is no Blufield County In NC, and I'm almost certain there never has been a county by that Name. At http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/county.html You find some information about when each county was formed and when Some were dissolved. There is no Blufield. I wonder if it could have Been Beaufort? Lura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doris R. Hi list (especially Fran), I have added some new names to the Brock (Serecta) Cemetery. They are the Jones names that Fran was inquiring about, the cemetery was rechecked and the names have been included on the page. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!!! David, thank you very much for the family information. It helps! I am searching for WEST families of Duplin that are descended from James born ca 1785 and Daniel born ca 1787. Since you and your wife were visiting Magnolia, I strongly suspect Samuel West JONES was descended from one of them. Thanks so much for taking time to write. I will keep a lookout to see if Diane posts the grave/cemetery info. Fran
Gayle, Yes it is supposed to be George Lucas. Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I really appreciate it! I have fixed it and put him back in alphabetical order. Hello, This info I gleaned from Ricks genealogy. Ricks married into our Thompson family, so Strahan is not a major line for us. I would appreciate it, if you learn who Nina's parents were please let me know. Should I come across anything else, I'll get back to you. Good hunting. > > From: "Lawrence E. Joseph James wrote his will and died in Duplin County, 1781. Joseph had a younger brother named Charles James that was in Duplin in 1790 and a son, Elias, who was in Duplin early 1780's. Who did Joseph JAMES marry? Who were his parents? Who were the children of Elias? Thanks.
My name is David B. Dunn; My wife and I were visiting relitives at Kennansville and Magnolia. We got at the cemetery late and had to do a rush job in transcribing the tombstones. I am fairly sure the tombstones were all listed as we marked with chalk the ones recorded. For the uncertainty I have because of the late hour and the hurried transcribing, I will ask one of my cousens who lives at Warsaw to see if he can find those two graves of Samuel West Jones and Annie Smith Jones. If he does I will ask Mike and Diane to add them to the listing. I hope, if they are there, that they can be added to the listing. My Great Grand Mother Martha Sullivan and Sarah Sullivan Jones were sisters. Sara and Martha Sullivan's Mother was also a Sara (Sally) Jones. Her husband was James Sullivan. I don't know yet if these two Jones lines were the same or not. Jethro had a son by the name of Felix Elisha Jones. Dad said that was a preaching man. He preached Hell Hot. He said when he was a boy he went down to the alter under his preaching at Sarecta Free Will Baptist Church. > [Original Message] > From: Fran <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> > Cc: <[email protected]> > Date: 11/18/2006 5:29:14 PM > Subject: [NCDUPLIN] Samuel West Jones > > Jones, Samuel West, 9-15-1882 - 12-26-1972, son of Jethro Jones & Sarah > Sullivan, spouse of Annie Smith (He is probably buried at the Brock > Cemetery beside his spouse) > > > I would like information on the above Samuel West JONES. John Davis died in Sampson County in 1789. His wife Fanny was in court 13 May 1789 and filed a suit of dower against Isaac, James, Benjamin and Jeremiah Davis, heirs of the said John Davis. One deed made me wonder if she could have been a Frazier. Any lead to the identification of John, Fanny, or the children would be appreciated. Margie Davis Roe

Jones, Samuel West, 9-15-1882 - 12-26-1972, son of Jethro Jones & Sarah Sullivan, spouse of Annie Smith (He is probably buried at the Brock Cemetery beside his spouse) I would like information on the above Samuel West JONES. In particular for whom was he named? Thanks.
Diane, here is some info on my ancestor, Samuel WEST. Please use it on the Duplin pages if you wish. Fran ______________________________________________ Samuel West, NC Militia, in Duplin who fought under Capt. Joseph Williams and Capt. Jabez Jarves for 31 days at the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. For the 31 days tour he was paid 6/19/6 pounds. He drew militia voucher #2229 from the Wilmington District. On Aug. 1, 1782 he enlisted in Capt. Shepard's Com. of the NC 10th Regiment and was discharged June 11, 1783. West was credited with 18 months service. In the Price book Samuel is #90955 and is credited with $76.60.

A Nina Strahan married Henry Chess Ricks , who was b 7 Aug 1869 in Tangipahoa Parish, La.. They had 7 children, I believe. The Ricks, in Va. earlier, migrated from NC about 1800. I have nothing else on the Strahan name. Ring any bells? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lawrence E.
