Hi, Just a correction, Serecta should be spelled Sarecta. As for the question of the Jones/West Conection reguarding Samuel West Jones as far as the extensive research that has been done on the Jones family there is no connection to the West family. Samuel West Jones was my great uncle. His brother Rev. Felix Elisha Jones was my great grandfather. I grew up 2 houses down from Uncle Sam and Aunt Annie. I suspect that Samuel West was named for his great grandfather Simon West McLaMoore. Samuel West Jones died the same day as President Harry S. Truman. David, thank you for posting the interment info on Samuel West JONES to Diane, who, in turn, posted it on the Duplin web pages. Now all I have to do is find out the JONES/WEST connection for which Samuel West JONES was named. Thank you for your help. The below will be a help in tracking him. The North Carolina Gazetteer, a Dictionary of Tar Heel Places, by William S. Powell page 55, says there is a Bluefield, community in south central Bladen county. Named for John Blue. Beaufort, town and county seat in south central Carteret County, listed page 32 of same book as above. Beaufort (Boe-furt) County was first called Pamptecough Precinct when it was formed in 1705 from Bath County; the name was changed to Beaufort about 1712 to honor Henry Somerset, Duke of Beaufort (1684-1714), who in 1709 became one of the Lords Proprietors. page 32, same book as above. There is also a NEWPORT in Carteret County, NC west o f Morehead City and City of Beaufort, North Carolina... Do you happen to have the family of Mary HICKS who married Sherriff Joseph WILLIAMS...of Onslow/Duplin County, North Carolina. Thanks, Gayle
According to my map Bluefield is on Clarks Crossroads between Highway 701 and Highway 87. It is NE of Clarkton. Bluefield Populated Place in Bladen County, North Carolina, USA. Latitude: 34.52472 : Longitude: -78.60222 : Elevation: 125 ft Margie
I don't see a town by that spelling, but according to "Microsoft Streets and Trips" there is now a Bluefield, NC in Bladen County. Lura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doris R. I can't tell you anything about Thomas, but I can tell you that the account could not be accurate as stated. There is no Blufield County in NC, and I'm almost certain there never has been a county by that name. At http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/county.html you find some information about when each county was formed and when some were dissolved. There is no Blufield. I wonder if it could have been Beaufort? Lura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doris R.
