    1. [NCDOGS] folklore event at UNC tomorrow
    2. Richard Ellington
    3. I had intended to mention this at the D-OGS meeting last night but I forgot. There will be a storytelling session presented by Orville Hicks tomorrow in Wilson Library on the UNC campus from 10:00-11:00am. Orville Hicks is from the Beech Mountain, NC area and is a cousin of one of the most famous mountain storytellers, Ray Hicks, now deceased. Orville and Ray are noted for their Jack tales, ancient moralist stories with roots brought to the Appalachians by the early English and Scots-Irish settlers. If you have never heard Orville, you have missed out on a cultural treat. He speaks in a voice and with an accent largely unheard in North Carolina anymore. You can close your eyes and listen to Orville talk in the manner of mountain folk of a hundred years ago. I will make every effort to be at this event. Please join me. - Richard
