Bebe, I have a book called "North Carolina County Maps" that shows 1005. In fact, I use that road frequently to travel between Carrboro and Greensboro. In Orange County, it's known as Old Greensboro Rd. It starts at Jones Ferry Road just west of Carrboro near University Lake, then runs west over the Haw. It crosses NC 87 at Eli Whitney in Alamance County, makes a right turn at the Cane Creek Friends Meeting just past Snow Camp, runs northwest-ish to Kimesville where it makes a left turn and runs into Greensboro at 421 just south of old I-85. At the Greensboro end, it's known as Alamance Church Road. The book of maps appears to be out of print, but you can find "Old Greensboro Rd." on MapQuest.
