Roxboro St. Durham, NC 919-560-0171 3rd Floor Conference Room Cost: Free and open to the public North Carolina Collection Presents Genealogy 101: How to Research Your Family Tree Durham County Library's North Carolina Collection will present six 90-minute sessions titled Genealogy 101: How to Research Your Family Tree. The six sessions will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 11, 18, 25; Nov. 1, 8 and 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the free session held in the Main Library's 3rd floor conference room, 300 N. Roxboro Street. Learn how to gather basic genealogical information, interpret records, overcome roadblocks, organize and write your family history; get the most out of Internet resources, and use local, regional and national libraries and archives. Oct. 18: Census Records. Oct. 25: Library and Archive Skills, Software Suggestions. Nov. 1: Planning the Genealogical Trip. Nov. 8: Writing Your Ancestor's Story Finding More Information on the Internet. Nov. 15: Overcoming Brick Walls. Genealogy 101 will be led by husband-and-wife team Rob and Cathy Elias. Rob serves as president of the Durham-Orange Genealogical Society (D-OGS) and is a member of the National Genealogical Society (NGS). Cathy is on the staff at Wake County's Olivia Raney History Library and is an active member of NGS and D-OGS. They have conducted extensive genealogical research throughout the United States and in Great Britain and have presented talks and workshops on basic, African-American, Scots-Irish, and Welsh genealogy.
