Wednesday, 3 October 2007 -- D-OGS Meeting TOPIC: "The Hatfields and The McCoys!" Speaker: Ron McCoy Ron McCoy is the great-great-great grandson of Randolph McCoy (the clan patriarch of the "Hatfield and McCoy" feud from the 1880s). Ron will speak about his family and its rich and colorful history. Ron intends to cover the story of the feud as well as the extensive genealogy work that has been done on the families (particularly the McCoys). Portions of his presentation will be based on a book written by his grandfather's aunt, Truda Willams McCoy entitled "The McCoys: their stories as told to the author by eye witnesses and descendents". This book is the definitive account of the feud from the "McCoy" point of view. Truda conducted first-person interviews with feud participants in the 1920s and completed her manuscript about 1935. Despite several unsuccessful attempts to get her book published, it was finally publiahed in 1976 by her children after Truda's death. Recently, HBO optioned this book as a possible mini-series.
