Ava, from what Lynne Belvin says this would suggest to me that Archives didn't receive, didn't microfilm, and didn't index the missing marriage bonds from Orange County. This doesn't explain why the 1752 et seq. Orange County Marriage Bond Index doesn't have entries for the years before 1781 or what has happened to them. I was dealing with land records so I was told land records were buried to keep them from Lord Cornwallis, but marriage bonds may have been buried, or otherwise lost Such things happen. But sometimes searches and questions like yours turn up missing records and I hope that happens this time. According to the Archives website on the subject they have on file statewide marriage bonds from 1747, but maybe the ones before 1781 from Orange County never got there. I wonder how many other records from Orange County dated before 1781 got to Archives? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 1:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NCDOGS] Question Re Marriage Records in Orange County Ava, An excellent report. I just checked the Guide to Research Materials in the North Carolina State Archives, County Records. and the dates listed for Marriage Bonds for Orange County were1779-1794. Chowan County has bonds that start in 1747 - so it just depends on the county. Lynne Belvin **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place.
