My comments are not going to be relevant to the missing records from the 1700's, but for the years 1820-1879, I would like to recommend "Death and Marriage Notices of The Hillsborough Recorder" by Shirley Jones Mallard. Surely a copy is on file somewhere in Hillsborough. I found several records of interest on my families in this book.
