After shifting thru numerous books over years, it became apparent that digitizing was essential to at least preserve and protect the originals. A daunting task to say the least. Of course some form of index is needed. I have about 150 yrs of original family correspondence and diaries and photos. I have been doing for several years. I next transcribed the correspondence. I continue to keep this information in binders. Bit by bit I have transfered to DVDs. Sometimes I am able to find someone to help thru this process. This has been an ongoing issue to me, particularly involving the general nature of correspondence and diaries. I shied away from a family website which would include correspondence because for privacy issues. Am gradually also scanning all the photographs. I continue to maintain originals and the digitized and transcriptions and upon request of family members will generate copies. I would love to discuss this and share ideas with another person facing the same situation.
