WOW, Carol, et al, Re: Translations. What a long way we've come since I had to learn some sixteenth century German to read parish records on microfilm. Amazing what people will buy, isn't it? 'Wish everyone could see it. We talked about a wide variety of interesting topics afterward. There were some questions about which seemed to be the best translation tools online, and what is Skype? So here are a couple of sites I can think of or find, but I'd like you out-of-towners to suggest your own favorite translation sites to share with the rest of us. Babel Fish - _http://babelfish.yahoo.com/_ (http://babelfish.yahoo.com/) Free Translation - _http://www.freetranslation.com/_ (http://www.freetranslation.com/) Google Translate - _http://translate.google.com/translate_t_ (http://translate.google.com/translate_t) # Free Translation Online - _http://translation2.paralink.com/_ (http://translation2.paralink.com/) World Lingo - _http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html_ (http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html) Langenberg - _http://translation.langenberg.com/_ (http://translation.langenberg.com/) This one is the most complex and interesting, for most of these free sites you highlight, copy, and paste your foreign language material into the little window and select the language it is written and what you translate it into and ZAP there's your translation. This one will work with Fuzzums, Xerox and other intriguiging instruments to do your guessing for you. That of course highlights the "interesting" part of using translation sites, if you don't know the words are spelled correctly, neither will the translator and it will simply put the word in toto into the translated text. Not much help there. So you may want to keep a foreign language dictionary at hand as you prepare to enter your text into the program. In that way if you find a word doesn't make it through translation you can look it up and see if it an unusual tense or archaic usage you are dealing with. The other great tool we talked about was Skype, the free internet phone service. _http://www.skype.com/_ (http://www.skype.com/) When our son was in Mexico for a few years we had regular conversations over our computers sharing the news of the two countries, and keeping him in touch with the family. If you have cousins or contacts in Europe or some other place where you speak the language this is the tool for you. If you haven't tried these things, you are missing some of the best parts of the web. What a banquet! Carol **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges?
