    1. Re: [NCDOGS] Chatham County Courthouse on fire
    2. Is the Chatham Co. courthouse the primary/only place the records are located? It seems that the water supply is fluctuating, as the hoses keep going on and off. That may be part of their method to fight the fire though. They were doing repair work to the bell tower when the fire began. It was covered with scaffolding and a plastic covering as they worked. They have been doing work on the restoration of the brick building for some months now. They seem to have it under control to some extent at the moment, it should be out tonight. ABC 11 TV is following the fire. _http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/index_ (http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/index) Carol

    3. Chatham Co. Superior Judge, Carl Fox, said most files are kept in the annex across the street. Unless they were needed for today's proceedings. However he did express concern about any "old files" locked in the basement. 3. Most of the county records are not in the old courthouse but in the new annex. There were some portraits, an old photograph collection and other things of value in the old courthouse but it is not the records tragedy it might have been. 3. I heard that the Chatham County Historical Society had a vault-like room in the courthouse. The mayor was hoping that that room might be okay.
