Dear Fellow D-OGS, We need to vote on a new slate of officers at our November meeting, and this list is sadly lacking in names at present. We need a President, a Program Vice-President, and a Secretary. Ginny is still our Treasurer, and people have already volunteered for the two Director positions. Two things will happen if we don't have a slate to vote on: 1) D-OGS will not cease to exist! We will continue to have the monthly Newsletter and the quarterly journal, The Trading Path. Highly capable members are still in charge of aspects such as membership, website and our communication by ListServe. 2) Beginning in January, we will no longer have monthly meetings for the folks in the local area. These meetings require people to plan the programs, confirm the meeting place, and preside. We would all, of course, miss the fellowship and the opportunity to exchange ideas. If you don't already have a position with D-OGS (elected or otherwise), please think about how you might help our society. If every single office is filled, no one job should be that difficult. Here are the job descriptions: President: presides at the monthly meetings; calls board meetings (quarterly, or as needed); keeps a finger on the pulse of the organization to make sure all is running smoothly. Program Vice-President: oversees the calendar of monthly programs; with help from the membership, identifies and contacts potential speakers; confirms the meeting place; presides at the meeting in the absence of the President. Secretary: takes minutes at the monthly meetings and at board meetings; sends monthly minutes to the Newsletter editor for publication. Our grandmothers probably said it best - "Many hands make light work." If we all pull together, we can continue to have one of the best genealogical societies in the state. If you are willing and able to fill one of these positions for the 2010/2011 year, please contact us by email. Or, feel free to call us at (919) 544-7876. We look forward to hearing from you! Cathy, What if we went to a meeting every other month? Everyone's job would be easier.
