Ginger: When I searched in the published book "Durham County, North Carolina, Marriage Register, 1881-1906, there is a marriage between J. J. Watson and Julia Ware, in 1886 p.230. Joseph was listed as J.J. Watson, that may be the problem. That book is transcribed by Frances Holloway Wynne. That is not the actual marriage record, but it should allow the researcher to locate the original record.
