Does anyone know where to find birth certificates from 1911 in Durham County? The Durham County Register of Deeds said they did not have them. Thank you, Ginger

Ginger: I doubt you will find public records of North Carolina births prior to 1913 when they became required. Bibles, church records, and newspaper accounts would be where I would look for births before then. Ginger, prior to 1913 NC did not legislate the exact procedure for counties to collect and maintain vital statistics. Many counties had been keeping ledger books of births, deaths, marriages, etc. but they each did it in their own fashion. I am surprised that Durham County does not have anything. Ginger: Most of the older Durham County public records, original and microfilmed, are available in the North Carolina Department of Archives collection but I do not see birth records listed there. If the Durham County Health Department was in existence before 1913, it may have kept records of births.
