    2. Alvis Jesse Bynum, the founder, along w another gentleman, of the burning court house in Pittsboro, NC, was g grandson of old Luke Bynum and his wf., Martha Patterson, dau. of one of the first 8 justices of old Orange Co. Alvis was marr, to Susan HEADEN, dau. of Aaron Gaston Headen, merchant along w his son in law, Alvis, and Mary Edwards Rives, also of Chatham Co. Aaron attended brand new Wake Forest at the age of twelve! Susan (Headen) Bynum was a sister of my great grandmother, Fannie Harris Headen, wf. of merchant and banker of Chapel Hill,, Robert Lee Strowd of Strowd Hill, East Franklin St. in Chapel Hill....my grandfather, Bruce Strowd's parents. Alvis had interviewed one of his Bynum uncle's years ago, in the late 1800's, concerning his ancestor, Luke Bynum.... UNCLE SAID THAT THE BYNUM'S WERE "GAME AND PLUCKY"...let's hope this helps in the minds of the good Chatham folks toward the reconstruction of this handsome and historical building. 3. Does anyone know where the records, etc. for what is now Chatham Co. are for the period between 1754 and 1800? My ancestor Thomas Hart reportedly lived in what is now Chatham Co. when it was still Orange Co. from 1754/5 until his death, but he was born abt. 1685/6 and died before 1786. Thanks. 1. [NCDOGS] Free genealogy webinar this Saturday
    2. Richard Ellington
    3. I got this notice today: This is a reminder to sign up for the FREE webinar sponsored by the Southern California Genealogical Society. The session will be held Saturday, March 27, at 1:00 p.m. EDT and 10:00 a.m. PDT. Sign up now at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/999938817. Whether you're attending the Genealogy Jamboree, NGS, FGS or another conference, you'll find the hints and tips to be very valuable. George G. Morgan of TheGenealogyGuys will be presenting this webinar. George gave this talk at Jamboree in the past, and it was one of our most popular presentations that year. George will walk you through all the steps for maximizing your conference experience. These include: * registering for the conference; * planning your conference schedule; * planning your attack on the exhibit hall (from doing some preliminary research on company websites to putting together a shopping list); * encouraging your cousins to attend, too; * and making travel arrangements. He'll have lots of suggestions for onsite at the conference, including meeting other attendees, how to get one-on-one time with your favorite speakers, and how to "work" the vendors in the exhibit hall to gather new information. George will cover all this and more. George has more than 25 years of training experience, has attended and spoken at hundreds of events, and has planned the programs for two of the Federation of Genealogical Societies national conferences. No one knows genealogy conferences like George! Sign up today! https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/999938817 For more information, contact jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com -- Richard +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ Richard Ellington 109 Bruton Drive Chapel Hill, NC 27516 919-967-4168 +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

    2. Durham-Orange Genealogical Society North Carolina
    3. A new blog post <http://www.ncgenweb.us/dogsnc/how-to-post-a-query> has been published about the new Queries Submission feature of the website. The D-OGS website has a new feature — Submit a Query! Anyone can submit a *query* using the online query form on the Queries<http://www.ncgenweb.us/dogsnc/queries>page of the website. Once your query is submitted, the webmaster will then publish it to the “What’s New” Blog section<http://www.ncgenweb.us/dogsnc/whatsnew>of the website. If you would like to view all queries posted to the web blog, then click on the “Queries” category<http://www.ncgenweb.us/dogsnc/category/queries>on the left side of the page. When posting a query you have two check box options for displaying your contact information – to share or not to share. If you choose to share your contact information, it will be displayed along with your query on the blog. The *comments *feature is now live so if you would like to reply to a query that someone posted, you can do so easily by typing in your name, email address, and your reply in the text box provided. Your email address is not published. If you check the box that says “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail,” then you will be notified via email if someone replies to your comment. 1. Re: [NCDOGS] NARA Military Records -- some information of interest

    3. When I attended a program at the Southeast Region in Atlanta GA a year or two ago, they said that the World War I draft registrations were scheduled for transfer to St. Louis sometime after that new facility becomes available for use. The plan is that eventually ALL military personnel records will be centralized there. (That is, the plan at the time of the event I attended.) 1. [NCDOGS] Save copies of census forms
    2. I received this suggestion on another list... When filling out the 2010 Census, make a few copies to keep with your genealogy files. This way, future generations will not have to wait 72 years for their release. Jeff Palmer - jap1@peoplepc.com
