And check out her web site with its photos, quizzes, etc. It's at _http://www.forensicgenealogy.info/index.html_ (http://www.forensicgenealogy.info/index.html) They have a special discount on her books, etc. there as well and I can vouch for the book "Forensic Genealogy" as being one of the most interesting books on the subject of genealogy that I've read. What a mind she has! I bet if we bring our books to the meeting she'll sign them for us if we wish. Carol
... a bring a guest!
We are going to have a special guest speaker, author and forensic genealogical consultant Colleen Fitzpatrick, who will be talking about some of her work in this very specialized field. Her organization's website is http://www.identifinders.com/index.html. Colleen's appearance is due to the work of one of our members, Harvey Estes. Harvey had contacted Colleen about one of her books and found out that she would be in Durham in early October 2010. He asked if she would join us for our meeting and she complied. Our thanks go out to Harvey for his diligence and perseverance. Colleen has asked me if a D-OGS member would be willing to assist her with lodging for the evening of October 6 and transportation to the airport the next morning. Is there a local D-OGS member that would be willing to offer this help? If so, please contact me directly as quickly as possible at richard_ellington@unc.edu. This should be a very exciting and informative program. I highly encourage you to attend this meeting, if at all possible. -- Richard =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= >>> >>> Richard K. We've talked in the CIG meetings during the last year about the fact that I have been moderating the group for six or more years now, and that is long enough. Now is the time for someone to step up and take a turn at moderating so I can take a break and the group can continue. I plan to do this for the next two months, so in the meantime I will be glad to help someone get a head start on it. Please contact me if you would like to take a turn at moderating. It's been great fun and I can't tell you how much I've learned during this time. I wouldn't have missed it for anything, but we need fresh faces in the group, particularly that of the moderator. Thanks for the help all of you have given me, if I didn't tell you how much I've appreciated it take it from me, I certainly did. Some people in particular have consistently sent me information to share and consistently participated in the group. I couldn't have done it without you. Carol Boggs
They say there is nothing so constant as change, and the CIG usually proves it. Although we had planned to have Mike tell us about images and embedded information, that is not to be. We will plan that for a later date. For September, let's all pitch in and bring our knottiest problems and questions, as well as the usual helpful web sites and see how we can help one another make the most of our time and energy in genie land. We all collectively know enough to be very helpful to one another and I defy anyone to come away from a CIG meeting without picking up something new and useful. We are scheduled for the library we met in last month so come join us. Sorry we have to keep making these changes, but that's what happens sometimes. Carol Boggs
