Lynn, any such change will require a by-laws change. We are chartered to hold a general meeting once a month on the first Wednesday. Other meetings can be called as required by the elected official(s). This might be a good alternative IF we can get some members to step up and be nominated for office. - Richard On 10/13/2010 10:05 AM, lrichard@co.durham.nc.us wrote: > Cathy, > > What if we went to a meeting every other month? We need a President, a Program Vice-President, and a Secretary. Ginny is still our Treasurer, and people have already volunteered for the two Director positions. Secretary: takes minutes at the monthly meetings and at board meetings; sends monthly minutes to the Newsletter editor for publication. I too have a copy of her book, "Forensic Genealogy" and for those who may not think there would be anything of interest to them in particular, I'd like to comment on a couple of things in the book people may not be aware of. For instance there is a fascinating case study of the Ulmer family who were German refugees that illustrates beautifully what the topic is all about. Of particular interest to me was the section on identifying and dating photos based on the signs on the walls, the angle of light casting shadows, the clothing, autos, etc. It is simply astounding what can be deduced from a photo. When Richard suggested we bring photos for her to help us identify, he was right on target. She will no doubt be able to tell you dozens of things you didn't know about your photos. Carol

Hi all, I'm looking for a creative person out there to design or find a new or existing D-OGS logo for the website. Currently we are implementing two separate logos that are the seals for Durham and Orange counties. I would like to create a combined single logo or image that would incorporate both counties and include the organization's name. It can be a historical item, photo, or graphic. The new logo would be implemented on the website and printed materials. Please send all design suggestions to me OFFLIST at grs3275@yahoo.com. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST. - send all inquiries to me OFFLIST at grs3275@yahoo.com. Ginger
I had someone get a hold of a credit card number and change the address to Portland Oregon. When they were not able to supply my mother's maiden name, the account was blocked without damage. The information about dob and mother's birth name is too readily available, so I want to be more defensive. Four suggestions. Create a new Mother's Maiden Name. And or: set up a password on the credit card (this is not the internet access password). Set up the card so that there can be no new cardholders added Set up the account so that the address cannot be changed. Maybe you are way ahead of me, but just a thought.
