Now you must come to the next D-OGS meeting, Lisa Alther is going to be very interesting. She manages the Reed DNA project, among other things. We've been in touch for several years via email. I'm not the best person to ask, I am now having some problems with citation myself. I do have two suggestions though, and I will try to give you a call this afternoon once I get my errands wrapped up. I'm heading out now. I do hope to see you this coming Saturday. 1. Call either Margo Brewer ((919) 967-7181) or Dawn Ellis ( ? number) who are our "teachers" at the TMG meetings and see if they can help you clarify the documentation. 2. Present the question at the TMG meeting this coming Saturday at the LDS Family History Library as I suspect we would get a good cross section of perspectives on the question. 3. Ask Cathy Elias ((919) 544-7876), she and Rob have been very long-term TMG users. They do not attend the TMG meetings though, as they know everything they need to and can't afford to give the time to a three hour meeting. I'll get back to you later, good luck. Hi Carol, Hope you have been well. I couldn't get to the last meeting due to family commitments, which was upsetting as the speaker sounded great! I am disappointed that the group can't meet. I have actually started work on my NGS course and am having a heck of a time with TMG. I have some questions about some basic concept issues pertaining to citations. I am wondering, if you have a few minutes sometime, you can give me a call. I have read some of the online TMG tips, but am not sure I am interpreting them properly. I could stand to get a different perspective/some guidance on this. My number is 960-0026. The third is not an option because it conflicts with the NCGS annual meeting and conference, and since receiving email from several "regulars" of the computer group it appears that the 17th of November is not a good option either as people have already filled their calendars. So, as much as I hate to cancel another meeting, it appears that it is simply not going to work out this time. For those of you who can make the December 8th meeting, please send suggestions about topics, questions, and news that we can share with the group. Carol I can tell from way over here in Tennessee the work all of you do. It takes time to send email, arrange meetings with speaker and continue on and on and over and over with research. You have to love research to do this and it gets old and sometimes you have to walk away from it but you will go back and pick it up again because it is something you love and enjoy.. I can not imagine all the leg work that had to be done before computers. Computers are a wonderful invention that allow people over in Tennessee to read about the good people of North Carolina. I have enjoyed so many of the email since I have joined and I renew my membership so I can continue with this opportunity. This is a gift that I stumbled into a few years ago and I am so grateful to have found your web site and to make this possible. Over these few years I have hit on someone else's idea and use it for my on research and sometimes it will open another door for me. I want to thank all of you for all of the work you do and to keep up the good work. I want to visit the Orange County area some day and to spend a week to take a good look around at the places my ancestors lived and are buried. These are some of the same places fellow members write about in your email's. You can make it seem real and not just a place I have heard of in my research. Charlotte, I appreciate your enthusiasm and I'm certain we all know it is genuine, but the ones who really do the work of studying and honoring the generations gone by are those who year after year quietly go about reading, writing, and publishing the carefully gathered facts and stories of Old Orange County. They are rarely the ones who have something to say every time there is an opportunity - they are too busy getting something done! We see a lot of these local experts regularly come to the meetings, listen to the presentations, then go home to get back to work gathering the history. I wish all the "distant D-OGS" could know how many local people work hard year in and year out to make certain that the history of this region and its people is made available to everyone whether near or far. The work of a local genealogical society may not directly impact those who are here to do the actual ferreting out of the facts, but they benefit indirectly in the same way from folks in other regions who are finding the answers to their brick walls in other communities to which they don't have easy access . You are very kind and I wish you every success with getting your folks identified. I know someone will really appreciate your efforts.
