My ggrandfather, Sgt. John/James M. Ireland of the 2nd. Ky. Cav. was camped in Lexington, Davidson Co., N. C. when the war was over. In June 1865 he started courting a lady named Katie Ingram. This information comes from a diary he kept during the war. He was 25 years old at that time so I suspect she was about that age also. If there is any relatives of Katie or any information on this lady or her family please contact me. Sonny.
