>From "Pathfinders Past and Present A History of Davidson County North Carolina" by M. Jewell Sink & Mary Green Matthews, 1972, recently loaned to me: p. 205 Ferries [abstract] In colonial days ferries were plied over the Yadkin River. By 1808 on a North Carolina map called "The First Actual Survey of the State of North Carolina", 3 ferries were listed: Long's, Beard's, and Farm's and 2 fords: Boon's and Hickory L. By 1865, there were 5 ferries: Stokes', Skeen's, Crump's, HASTON's, and Oak's. By 1882, there were 7: Brendle's, Stokes', Hick's, Cowan's, Hanna's, Barnes', and Idol's. This is the only reference to HASTON Ferry of Davidson Co., NC, in this material. The entire paragraph refers to those ferries on the Yadkin River. There is a map dated 1868 near the front of the book, which shows these ferries: Fulton's, Hairston's, Click's, Point, Brown's, Look's, no name--just "Ferry", Hick's, and Stokes'. I think that this would be in Davidson Cty. I can't tell what river or creek it is on.
