My 4th great grandmother was Elisabeth Briggs (c.1784-1871) who married William Lindsay (c.1777-1841) in Stokes Co. NC in 1807. William Lindsay's father, Robert Lindsay, had a 2,000 acre plantation on Deep River, and it was there that Guilford County was formed in 1771. My theory is that, after William Lindsay's death, Elisabeth Briggs Lindsay may have moved back to the place of her childhood, as she and several of her children are shown on the Kernersville, Forsyth Co. census of 1850. (Forsyth Co. was formed from Stokes in 1849). The Lindsay plantation on Deep River is only about 6 miles from Kernersville. Thus far, I have been unable to find anything on Elisabeth Briggs' family, so when I saw your Henry Briggs, I hoped you might could help. I was on this site looking for information about other Lindsays who later came to Davidson County...or were here when it was still part of Rowan. Best Regards, John Field Pankow Asheville, NC
