I am related to Zella's husband's mother, M.Emma Bean. I found information on the McCarns back to George, b. 1826, m. Mary but would like to know who their children were (besides George W.), and if you can go further back on the McCarns. Also, I don't have any info on Zella's ancestors. If you'd like anything on the Bean angle, I can give it to you. Thanks, Michele mmferris@hotmail.com

My Great greatgrandfather was Riley Hill, son of Sion Hill. This Sion Hill was married to Orpha Starage Lee in Oct. 1800 in Johnston county. They moved to Wake County, then to Randolph and Davidson County. Sion also had a son named Simeon who had a son named Sion. The 1850 census lists Sion as 10 years old. The 1860 census lists who is probably your Sion as age 22, so they may not be the same, but I'll bet they're related. Have you found further information? I would appreciate your sharing if so. I am just beginning, also. Thanks, Jo Adams

The 1870 census shows him as 45 and the 1880 shows him as 50. I believe the William that went to SC was chr in 1824, so was born before that date. This man appears to be young. Yet, the naming of his children(Emma, John, Alfred, Mary, Cora, Patty, William H.) goes right along with the family names for this line. Being his wife is so young, he may have taken ten years off his age. (And he only aged five years in ten)

John, Thomas and Joseph, and a sister, Susannah Joll all went to the US. Only a couple of people remained in England. John, Joseph, Thomas, and Susannah were all married from about 1815-1825. Some spent time at Phillack, Cornwall. But most were at Tywardreath-St. Blazey area. The family came into the area by 1816. I have looked into other parishes, trying to find where the family orginially came from. My guess is the Gwennap area. But the Wicks or Weeks there likely are maybe kinfolk, but not the place that the father of the family came from.

There are landowner maps for Davidson County for 1910 and 1890 available for purchase at the Thomasville Library of Davidson County Public Library System. The 1910 map is framed on display next to the local history room. These 2 maps are also available at the Tax Dept. in the County Gov't Center in Lexington. Here, I think you need to call ahead to have them make a copy for you. There is a smaller map of the Denton area that I think contains a sort of history of the land grants/ownership in that area. It is available for sale at the Denton Library of DCPLS. The Denton map, I believe was done by Bert Lanier, a local Denton historian. If you are a NC resident and have a borrower's card from your local public library or institution of higher learning, you can get access to the Sanborn Maps for Lexington 1887-1948, and for Thomasville 1908-1938, through NCLIVE online. You can print them out as well as look at them online, zooming in on your desired "territory." "Sanborn fire insurance maps are the most frequently consulted maps in both public and academic libraries. Sanborn maps are valuable historical tools for urban specialists, social historians, architects, geographers, genealogists, local historians, planners, environmentalists and anyone who wants to learn about the history, growth, and development of American cities, towns, and neighborhoods. They are large-scale plans containing data that can be used to estimate the potential risk for urban structures. This includes information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and function of structures, location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, street and sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house and block numbers. Seven or eight different editions represent some areas." I believe I've seen Hamby's Creek on the Thomasville maps as well as the Davidson Co. maps. Of course, Conrad Hill is just southwest of Thomasville beyond Fair Grove. I hope this is helpful. Myers b. 9 OCT 1836 in Davidson Co. He came to Indiana around the age of 18, his father being deceased at that time. On the 1850 census of Davidson Co., I find a John Myers living with Benjamin and Sarah Green. There is an Eliza Myers, and 3 children....Elisabeth, Robert F., and Abigail living with an Abigail Green. From what I can find searching, I think Abigail Green is the mother of Benjamin Green, so wondering if there was a family connection. I assume the father of John died between 1842 - 1849.....based on I think the Myers names I find are John, his mother and his siblings. Any help with this mystery would be appreciated.
