He would have been born in October 1942. I know that because he was the only child in my class who was younger than I was (my birthday was in September). He could be a grandchild of the one you are looking for. Unfortunately I can't find him in the current phone book. I haven't heard from him since he graduated from high school in 1960...

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XSB.2ACE/186.1189.1191.1193.1 Message Board Post: Hi Judy Michael Barrier and wife Catherine were the parents of four sons who came to Rowan Co, NC ....George Henry, John, Jacob and ?. Sorry, I will have to look up the fourth son for you. The fourth son died early and did own land and was on the tax register, but researchers seem to overlook him. George Henry acquired 573 acres (see www.usgenweb.com, Rowan Co archives-deed and note name "Barrier".) He sold part to his father, Michael. Michael died in approx 1772-3. Michael died intestate (no Will) but there is a record of settlement of the estate. Both George Henry and John were the administrators. George Henry Barrier lived and died in Rowan Co whereas John moved to Mecklenberg/Cabarrus Co. George's name in the records can often be found as Berger or Barger. There is a Barger website which gives information on the family of NC. George Henry did acquire a land grant in TN as many did at the time, but whether a descendant actually acquired this very same land....I don't know. There was a Barger family in Rowan at the time so that leads to confusion. If you visit this website you will be able to read a paper written in 1933 by a Barrier descendant which might help with your Jacob. http://www.suzidtripod.com/barrier.html and further info http://www.suzidtripod.com/georgehenry.html Please note in the history....It is said that Robert W Ramsey, a NC historian said that the Behringer and Birrer were the same man. That isn't true. Ramsey said it "might be". However, if you look at ship entries there were many different spellings and many possiblities. Also I have never found documentation that this family spent time in Heidelberg, PA. In fact, the PA archives sent me a deed for a George Barrier dated 1736. So all info prior to NC really needs to be verified or at this point taken with a grain of salt. I have info which was compiled in 1929 by John D Barrier and supplied by Billy Dawn Barrier Aueciello of Billerica MA and printed in a book compiled by CL Kirkland in 1994, MS. John Barrier (son of Michael and Katherine) of Mecklenberg, NC was first married to Anna Boshart. He then married Margaret Kruse. His oldest son was Jacob B Barrier who married Katherine Duke b 1782. Jacob B and Katherine had sons: Matthias, Moses, Daniel, David, Edmund and daughters: Eliz and Mary. Moses married Sarah Nussman and their children were: Catherine, Julie, D. Monroe, Paul A Barrier, Caleb C., & Levi. Sarah Nussman Barrier died and Moses then married Margaret Hahn. D Monroe Barrier married Sarah Barringer. Their children were: Ferdinand, Dewitte, Frank, Jennie, Sallie, Kate, Mattie. Is this your husband's line? It says Dewitte Barrier. Could that be Jesse Moses Dewitt?? Hope something here helps a bit. My Barrier is Charles Barrier of Rowan/Davidson Co.....just up the road from where Michael, George Henry and John settled. Whether my Charles is a son of Michael....I don't know. Still working on that connection. bye Stephanie

My husband is the grandson of Jesse Moses DeWitt Barrier, the son of Daniel M. (D. Monroe in 1860 Census) who is the first-born son of Moses Barrier. (1850 Census) Family Trees I have found list Jacob Barrier as his father. I have printed out theSt. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Concord, NC, cemetery listing from USGenWeb listing. I found a Jacob Barrier there, as well as Moses Barrier's first wife, Sarah Nussman. However, I have not seen anything that links Jacob to Moses conclusively. Do you have any solid link? Any information you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello! I did a quick search and found the following. I hope it's your Isaac. Smithfield District 4, Johnston County, North Carolina Nathan Williams, 44, farmer, 17,000, NC Martha, 45 Isaac, 19, farmer Mary, 17, at school John, 12, at school Esther, 10 Nancy, 8 Nancy Durham, 35 I understand you already have Serena in that year, so I didn't do any kind of search for her. I would have only had her by her first name, anyway! I hope this is of help to you. Lisa Dickson

That was false, I do have him in 1860 with his wife in Northern Davidson County, North Carolina. The oldest child listed in that census is a John who is 8. The couple did not marry until October of 1852, so John must have just turned 8 at the time of the 1860 census. Sorry, for the goof! Sheila

I did already have the 1880 census information, and you did have the correct family. Isaac and Serena married in 1852 in Davidson County, NC. I can find Serena in 1850 with her large family. The 1880 shows that their oldest child in the household is 18 and was born in Kentucky, which places them in Kentucky at least by 1862. The oldest child I have found for them is Louisa B. and she was born in 1855 in North Carolina. I just can't find Isaac in 1850 or 1860. In July of 1866 his brother John, marries his second wife in the home of Isaac in Hopkins County. Again, Thank You for the effort! Sheila

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XSB.2ACE/12325 Message Board Post: I have found a William Wicks in Davidson County, North Carolina that might be a family member. The census states he was born in England (hopefully Cornwall); He was 45 years old in 1870 and 50 years old in 1880. Family says he went to SC and died at about 50 years old. The above man was gone by 1900 census. This William had a wife, Sarah, who was born about 1842-1845 in North Carolina. She had 8 children, all were living in 1900. Children by the census were: Emma Wicks b about 1862 NC. John born about 1864 NC, he married likely about 1882 to Sallie. Alfred born about 1869 NC; he married in 1891 to Caroline Harris. Mary born about 1871 in NC; She married in 1885 to W.A. Kirkman. Cora was born about 1873 in NC. Patty B was born Nov 1877. She may have been called Hattie. William H. was born 1879-1880. His wife was Zillie or Julie. Another child was born after the 1880 census . In 1900 and 1910, Sarah was in Lexington, Davidson Co., NC. The William Harry or Henry Wicks that I am looking for was chr 18 July 1824 in Cornwall. He was 15 in 1841 census. He was in Michigan before going to the Carolina's. Can anyone tell me anything more about this William Wicks in NC that would help to tell if he is the correct man?
