    1. DNA Genealogy
    2. David Sigmon
    3. Hi, all, I apologize if you received this message as part of another group. I'd like to suggest something to the group. Some of my ancestors are from this county. There is something called the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. They use DNA info to help identify ancestry. There are a couple of things that makes this Geneological DNA database unique: 1) they use all of the DNA information, not just Y-chromosone or maternal mitochondrial DNA, 2) therefore, they need every one to send in their DNA, not just men, 3) It's FREE, they'll send you a free kit and will analyze it for free. However, you won't get any info back from them. Anyone can search their database for free by using their genetic markers, but you'll need to find out your genetic markers from some other company. To request a free kit go to: http://smgf.org/request_a_free_kit.html The non-profit Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF) is building the world's largest database of correlated genetic and genealogical data. Our database uses sophisticated DNA analysis to link individuals together, while maintaining strict confidentiality of participants' information. The SMGF database pursues the following objectives: Build the public database by collecting DNA samples and corresponding genealogies from throughout the world Make the information useful to genealogists by allowing public access to the database while maintaining the privacy of contributors Help people get past “brick walls” within their genealogies by providing information about specific ancestors to whom they are biologically related Create analysis tools to enable genetics to be used in new ways for genealogical research DNA samples with associated four-generation pedigree charts have already been collected from over 50,000 volunteers by SMGF. Up to 170 genetic markers (specific regions of DNA) are analyzed for each individual. The corresponding pedigree chart is also extended as far as genealogical databases allow; extended pedigrees currently include over one million ancestral records. The database will be released in stages. When each portion is ready for public release, free access will be available through the SMGF Website. The first database release, comprising paternal-line (Y chromosome) genetic data and corresponding genealogies, includes data for more than 12,000 individuals and hundreds of thousands of ancestors. SMGF also continually conducts research into new methods of using DNA analysis for genealogical research. A significant focus of our research is to identify and trace ancestral origins, with genetic identity defined by factors of demographic separation as well as by time period. We are also researching ways to use the inheritance models of various types of genetic data to trace different genealogical lines. We are experimenting with new genetic clustering algorithms, the statistical reconstruction of ancestral trees, the inference of ancestral genetic signatures, and the inference of surname based on paternal-line DNA. Please tell everyone you know. David Sigmon

    1. Where is Potts Creek?
    2. Diane Miller
    3. I have searched for a map showing Potts Creek all day, I give up. Can anyone guide me to a website that has this map? I am have ancestors that lived on Potts Creek and Abbott's Creek. I have found Abbott's Creek and I want to see how close it was to Potts Creek. I am interested in the late 1700's to 1820 but will take any map available, even a verbal description. I have found a posting that says my 3rd great grandfather Nathaniel Tenpenny received a 200 acre land grant on "Potts Creek" in Rowan Co. (now Davidson Co.) for his service in the Rev. War. Does anyone know if the Davidson Library has a book on these grants. Thank you so much Diane Miller Georgetown, TX

Well Phillip W. and Jackson Joel (J.J.) were brothers. I looked on the world connect tree and found Phillip but there were no names listed for any children. Keith, do you mean that you are adding the children's names to Phillip and Laura's information? If that's true they are the children of Elansum which means my line originated in Pennsylvania under the name Beyrle. Thank you guys for your help!

Spaugh (14 Mar 1862--24 Jun 1937). They probably were married around 1879, since their oldest child was born in 1880. The info I have comes from a series of books, "The Byerlys of Carolina," published 1960, 1965, & 1976, by Wesley Grimes Byerly, Jr. Your Noah would have been a 1st cousin of my wife's maternal grandfather. The common ancestor would have been Elansum Byerly (16 Dec. 1833--28 Sept 1897), father of Phillip W. and Jackson Joel Byerly (and others). I don't have the books...just lucky that our county library does, as does the Davidson Co. library in Lexington.

Living grandfather b. 1921 Stephen b. 1874 Rolland (Roland) b. 1839 John b. 1802 m Priscilla b. 1816 Davidson County NC By my accounts John is the son of Phillip Walser and the grandson of Caspar (Gaspar) Walser who immigrated over to Pennsylvania in 1749 on the Albany. Phillip had 4 brothers named Martin, Frederick, John, and Jacob. I need to understand this. I am thinking John Walser (elder) b. 1770 had one child named Susannah so John Walser (younger) b. 1802 can not be his son. He is Phillip's son correct? Can someone help me verify this? Just double check...I dont want to make a mistake on this! Thanks!

Surnames: Lindsay, Briggs, Field Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XSB.2ACE/12422.1 Message Board Post: I'd be pleased to know anything you could tell me about Henry Briggs' ancestors. My 4th great grandmother was Elisabeth Briggs (c.1784-1871) who married William Lindsay (c.1777-1841) in Stokes Co. NC in 1807. William Lindsay's father, Robert Lindsay, had a 2,000 acre plantation on Deep River, and it was there that Guilford County was formed in 1771. My theory is that, after William Lindsay's death, Elisabeth Briggs Lindsay may have moved back to the place of her childhood, as she and several of her children are shown on the Kernersville, Forsyth Co. census of 1850. (Forsyth Co. was formed from Stokes in 1849). The Lindsay plantation on Deep River is only about 6 miles from Kernersville. Thus far, I have been unable to find anything on Elisabeth Briggs' family, so when I saw your Henry Briggs, I hoped you might could help. I was on this site looking for information about other Lindsays who later came to Davidson County...or were here when it was still part of Rowan. Best Regards, John Field Pankow Asheville, NC
