There is an old land grant map at the Love Learning Resource Center at the Davidson County Community College in Thomasville, NC. It lists old land grants. It has your Robert Bartley [sp.], 100 acres, 1788 borders the Yadkin River, Benjamin Davis, 166 acres, 1788, John Davis, 131 acres, 1784. Potts Creeks (there are two branches) runs off of the Yadkin River. One branch goes toward Churchland & Jubilee - actually in the middle of these two places. The other branch is west of Linwood going northwest. I could not find Richard's Creek, but that does not mean it's not there. I just can't locate it. The land grant map I'm talking about is quite large. I copied it in pieces at the NC State Library in Raleigh, NC in 1989. Since I am a local I'd be glad to call the Community College and see if they have a copy machine big enough to copy the map. Or perhaps you'd like to visit them when you are here. Just let me know. I know he named in little community in Jefferson County, GA "Bethany," he named a school he founded in Jefferson County, GA "Bethany Institute" and his son, William Russell DANIEL, did the same when he moved to Morgan County, GA. There is a marriage bond of a W. H. Kepley and a Mahaley Kellsar (I think if should be Keller or Kellar) dated March 24, 1867 in Davidson Co. Florence was born on April 10, 1869 in Davie Co. and married Thomas Benton Barnhardt on December 4, 1887 in Cabarrus Co. Mahala died when Florence was very young and Florence was raised by Mahala's mother, Frances Davis (Davis was name of her second husband}. Is any of this mentioned in the Yount/Kepley book? I've never had access to it.

Equity Court in 1827, that mentions a William Wiseman, guardian of Elizabeth, William, Daniel, Hannah, Joanna, David and Susanna Hunt. According to this document they were children of Elijah Hunt, son of Gershom and Eunice (FitzRandolf) Hunt of Hunterdon Co., NJ. The document is a petition for the court to allow the family of Abraham Hunt to sell a tract of his land after his death, having never married or had children. I am a descendent of Col. Jonathan (1716) and Mary (Smith) Hunt. His son, Wilson, moved to KY where my line continued, but I would like to trace some of the family that stayed in NC. I am willing to email you a copy of this transcription, if interested. Would you be able to tell me anything about William Wiseman and the children he was guardian of, or who Elijah Hunt's wife was?--Laura

I hope to visit the area in the forseeable future and wish I knew more about where the Barkley plantations were. These waterways were mentioned in Robert Barkley of Rowan Co's will; Potts and Richards. Can someone tell me more about the whereabouts of these waterways? I expect they are very small.
