I met some wonderful people and got lots of answers, but some answers don't make for simple solutions. My GGGrandfather Noah Festus Killion married Rebecca C. (?) b. 11 May 1834. She has been listed as Rebecca C. Weavil on family tree prepared many years ago, and she is indeed the 16 year old Catherine R Weavil listed in the John Jr. Weavil household in the 1850 Davidson Co. NC census. Although I have not been able to locate any marriage bond, this couple has a infant child Elizabeth Killion buried in the Hine Family Cemetery with parents initials N & KR. I have John [Jr.] Weavil's will in which he lists the children as they appear in the 1850 census. However, he refers to Catherine R as "my wife's daughter". Is anyone familier with this Weavil/Weavel family? I am asuming that Catherine is John's second wife and she has been married before or had Catherine R out of wedlock. My goal, of course, is to find the parentage of Catherine Rebecca, whoever she may be. Catherine ???, the mother, would have been born abt. 1815 according to the census. I found a reference on the internet that she was a Bodenhamer and there is a Catherine Bodenhamer b. 1815 m. David M. Welborn. I have been unable to relocate this information for confirmation although I have searched and searched. (I am kicking myself for not writing it down) Any help (or reference to someone who "might" know) would be most appreciated. Carol Bartlow

The description below indicates this property was somewhere near the intersection of Hamby and Abbott Creeks northeast of Lexington. However, I would like to be more precise. Can someone tell me exactly where this is? I thank you so much if you can (I was just there for two weeks doing research in Salisbury, but didn't know about this deed ). In 1774, "...commissioners appointed to lay out a road from the Shallow Ford in Surry County, NC, through the Counties of Surry, Rowan, Guilford and Cumberland to join the road through Guilford to Cross Creek, laid it as follows: Beginning at the Shallow Ford...to the Old Dutch Road, then leaving the Old Dutch Road on the left hand and crossing Henby's (HAMBY's) Creek...from thence into Cape Fear Road." I'm trying to piece together the Essex family. My ancestor is John Essex who married Catherine Rothrock and was involved with the Moravian church. His father was Joseph Essig (Essick/Essex) and he was involved with the Pilgrim Lutheran church in Davidson County. Joseph was married to a woman named Elizabeth-her maiden name is supposed to be Kimmel, but I haven't found actual proof of that yet. I am open to the possibility of more children and/or the fact that she may have been the second wife. I do know that Joseph came from Germany when he was about 10 years old and was born about 1742. What info I have came from LDS microfilm of the church records and a copy of the book Heritage of Davidson Co. as well as Joseph's revolutionary war pension record on microfilm (very interesting reading-he was an Indian spy at a fort in KY).
