Entry- May 19, 1837 Friedberg...At the request of the family to hold the funeral I rode at midday to the burial place at the Eder home 4 miles from Friedberg and after burial I preached in English out of doors in front of a large company. Now, when I first saw this, I was curious about who wrote the journal. So, I started searching through my records to see what I could come up with. I found a disk with the same similar entries and dates. Mind you, this disk of information was taken when I first started my family tree, years ago !!!! For the entry of May 18, 1837, it read the same except after the phrase, "old Bernhard Kimmling", there was a number 88. For the entry of May 19, 1837, the burial place read "Ebert" and it did not mention mileage. My source was simply listed, NC Room(sorry), no book name, page, or anything to lead me back to this source. However, I think that the entries were made by a traveling preacher, not a moravian.(just a hunch!!) If the age of Bernhard was 88 at time of death, he couldn't possibly be born abt. 1770 as stated by Karen's web page. With this age, he would have been born abt. 1749 or 1750. - ---------------------------------------------------------- There is a Catharina Kimmel buried at Friedberg Moravian Church, God's Acre. She died in 1846, buried in section 11, interment XXXVII. This section was for women only. (You probably already know this, but each Moravian cemetery is divided up into sections. 1-men 2-women 3-girls 4-boys.) I checked what Catharinas I had in the Kimel family tree. I have Catharina Weaver Kimel, Bernhard's wife(abt. 1771), Catherine(Bernhard's dau) married Henry Shutt,Catherine(Andrew and Anna Kimel's dau)-(1824-1911)married Archibald Sink(1854-1940) and I have a Catharine(Barnabas and Hannah Kimel's dau)-(1833-?). If the latter Catharine died in 1846, she would have been buried in the girl's section(age 12 or 13). This leads me to believe that this was Catharina Weaver Kimel's grave. If it is, and she was born abt. 1771, she lived a long life of about 75 years. It is very possible that Bernhard waited until he was around 42 to marry, and it's very possible that he had already married before he met Catharina. And, it's still not proved that Bernhard was NOT born abt. 1770 !!!(smiling). May-be there were 2 Bernhards, 1 born in 1749 and 1 born in 1770. I also found the following: 1- 1790 Stokes County census..Henry Kimble 1 1 2 0 0 2- 1800 Stokes County census..Robert Kimble-pg.544 3- 1810 Stokes County census..Charley Kimble-pg 567 line# 39. The dates you speak of fit with what CAROL NEAL sent on the age of our BARNABAS KIMEL when he died -- 88 -- from the Moravian records. This pushes his DOB back to about 1749 which would work out with ELIZABETH and GEORG CLAUS who we surmise is a brother born abt. 1751. Also, we should take a closer look at the Philidelphia area. Please keep in touch. Patty

Posted on: Davidson County, NCGenWeb Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Davidson/1692 Surname: Kimel, Essig ------------------------- Chris and Carol, I would like to jump in on the Davidson Co, NC Kimel line-My Joseph Essig was married to Elizabeth and she was a daughter of Caty Myers. I have no proof that she is a Kimel, but we all seem to think she is. I was originally told her DOB was in the 1770's, but if she is the only wife of Joseph Essig, then his oldest son John was born in Philadelphia in 1771 and that implies that she was born in the 1750's. Unfortunately, Joseph did not mention her in his Rev. War pension testimony except by referring to her as his family. But Joseph did say he married in Philadelphia or neighborhood (the writing is difficult to read) and shortly after he married he moved to North Carolina. Don't know if this helps in the confusion, but I do thank you for pointing me to Timothy Kimmel's website. I did not know that Joseph had witnessed John George Meyer's will. I will also keep my eyes open for the Meyer and Kimel names along with my Essex/Essig ones. Thanks, Diana

Interesting insight - I think I may agree! >Army under George Washington. May-be he migrated to NC with the Romingers, >Rothrocks, who came from PA also. Just a tiny correction: the Romingers came to NC from Broad Bay, Maine, not from PA. You're right about the Rothrocks; they came from York Co. PA. Other York Co. families that made the same trek include EBERT, HOEHNS (Hanes), PFAFF, quite a few others. Looking at the next generation of KIMELs, however, of the spouses I can identify, I don't see any typical York County names. 3. Posted on: Davidson County, NCGenWeb Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Davidson/1688 Surname: ------------------------- O.K. Here we go !!!!! The Kimmel family I have, came from sources found at RootsWeb & Family-Tree-Maker. I actually stumbled across them by mistake. I was looking for Boeckel decendants and this is what I found. Johann Jacob Kimmel b-1710 in Germany Johann "Georg" Kimmel b- 1732 in Germany "Records from Lower Bermudian Lutheran, Pennsylvania do not include documentation of Georg and Catharina Kuemmel's marriage, only that they took communion as husband and wife in 1768." Married- Catharina "Caty" b-1732 d-1813? Catharina signed her will in 1809. She later married Daniel Evans by 1773 and in 1813, she went by the name of "Caty Myers" Catharina had 4 more children after the death of her first husband, Georg Kimmel. 1- Daniel Evans Jr. and three more Myers. Bernhard Kimmel b-1770 d- 05/18/1837 in Friedberg, NC. Married- Catharina Weaver b-1771. All information gathered from: www.familytreemaker.com/users/f/o/l/Karen-Foley/ My input: I believe that Johann "Georg" Kimmel is Bernhard's father because of the following. 1- Georg Kimmel "took communion" as husband to Catharina in 1768. I believe that Georg and Catharina were already married and had most of their children before arriving in America around "1768", or this was Georg and/or Catharina's second marriage. 2- I don't agree with Bernhard's birth. I have Moravian records showing Bernhard at the age of 88 upon death. This would make Bernhard's birth around 1759, not 1770. I also think that Catharina Weaver was his second wife. Last child born to Bernhard & Catharina was Sallie Kimel b-1811. Bernhard's age=52 & Catharina's age=40. Just a guess !!!!!!! It might do everybody some good to check the York County records or Adams County now, in Pennsylvania. May-be Bernhard served in the Continental Army under George Washington. May-be he migrated to NC with the Romingers, Rothrocks, who came from PA also. Anyway, BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL, oh and by-the-way, Karen Foley also had this information on the free RootsWeb pages. The name of her page was "The Collignon-Foley Family Tree" GOOD LUCK, Carol

    3. My gggrandfather was John S. Sullivan. I believe he was the son of William Sullivan, Sr. They are buried in the same plot at Fair Grove. However, there may have been another John Sullivan in the area who was already in adulthood when my John S. was born in 1804, so some think John S. may have been a grandson rather than a son of William Sullivan, Sr. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have information to sort out these relationships.

I have a few questions about the information that you provided. 1) I had Bernhard dying in 1837, but I didn't have the detailed information on his death date and where he's buried. Where did you find the information? Also, his birth year is disputed (see http://www2.fwi.com/~tkimmel/NC.htm b. 1766-1770). Do you have documentation of his birth year? The Kimel family of NC is working hard to solidify Bernhard's information. 2) Also there is confusion as to Bernhard's parents. See the same link. Do you have documentation of the information you provided me about his being the son of Johann Georg and Caty? You've been very helpful. Chris
