Phillip Sechrist was born in I believe Rowan county NC in 1790. He married Mary SULLIVAN on June 10 1815 in Rowan county NC. They migrated later to Morgan county IN. The spelling of the surname was changed from SECHRIST to SECREST about 1850. Although he seems to have the same place of origin and also migrated to the same place in Indiana as the other lines of Secrest in Rowan county NC, I cannot seem to make a connection to him through these lines. He is not listed as a son of any of them. Can anyone help on this? Posted on: Davidson County, NCGenWeb Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Davidson/1711 Surname: ------------------------- Browntown was founded in 1791 and incorporated in 1842. The railroad decided to go through High Point and the "Plank Road" went south of Browntown. These two things slowly made the town disappear. The only thing left is a short road, Browntown Lane, located near Abbotts Creek Primitive Church. Gus Jones settled in the area around early 1800s. He lived near the John Brown Shoe Shop, not far from Asel's Creek. He probably attended Bethel Church, the church and the old cemetery are gone now. A farmer plowed the land,(early 1900s), where the two stood and planted grain. He removed the old stones and markers. In 1850, Jesse Jones with wife Alithy settled near Browntown. I have their children also if you need them. Several houses down lived Lucy & Delphina Jones. East of Browntown lived Thomas Jones with wife Sarah and the next house were John Jones with wife Judah. they lived near Abbotts Creek. Orren Craven with wife Sarah lived inside the town's limits. They were the only Cravens. If you need more info, let me know !!!!!! I have alot of the town's history, the shops, the mills and so on. Best Of Luck, Carol
