    1. [NCDAVIDS] Ancestors of Osborne Hunt

    3. Posted on: Davidson County, NCGenWeb Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Davidson/1781 Surname: Hunt, Whisenhunt ------------------------- Tina H. Everhart: Thanks very much for the information on the ancestry of Osborne Hunt. I would also like to find the burial place of Andrew Hunt. It was my understanding that his farm where he is buried is in Davidson Co. rather than Randolph. I must admit to being puzzled by your Hunt line. According to the information I have, Osborne's surname was actually WHISENHUNT. Andrew, his father, used the name Whisenhunt on his marriage bond when he married Hannah Bundy (19 Sept 1819). Another of Andrew's sons, Alexander, served in the Confederate Army under the name Whisenhunt. I have seen legal documents concerning three of Andrew's grandchildren after he died (the children of my g-grandfather, Richard, Osborne's brother), naming them as Joseph W. Hunt, Burgess W. Hunt, and Jeannette W. Hunt. The "W. Hunt" is shorthand for Whisenhunt. In the course of my research I have come across two land grants to Andrew Hunt(s) in Rowan Co. in 1778 and 1794, both on Cedar Creek. I wonder if you have picked up the wrong Andrew because of the name similarities. Further confusing the issue is the fact that Andrew Whisenhunt also had a son named Andrew!!! The name "Whisenhunt" is spelled dozens of different ways and mostly misspelled. In PA German Reformed Church records it was spelled WISSINANDT. On the ship's passenger list when they arrived from Germany in 1731 it was spelled VISINAND. Present-day Whisnants have traced the family back to Switzerland in the 16th century. This is more than enough to give you a headache! It's very confusing. What do you think? I would still like to have some information on Osborne's descendants if it is available. Betsy Farlow
